Ready for a bad day

June 14th, 2006 at 02:23 pm

I am preparing myself for a bad day today. First of all, nothing to eat but popcicles today and then a gallon of that awful liquid to drink.
The last time I was told to drink it all in 2 hours, but I couldn't do it.
Today, I am going to start at noon (instead of 2) and drink it for 5 hours. There is no need to make myself sick and throw it up!
I will be glad when it is lunchtime tomorrow, I know I won't sleep at all tonight!

Going to splurge tonight

June 13th, 2006 at 10:04 pm

Since i can't eat tomorrow all day, I am planning on splurging tonight at dinner. I also allowed myself some cookies with icing on them today. I bought myself a treat. I love anything with icing, cause I love icing! Whatever I gain today, I will lose tomorrow.

a few bucks for challenge

June 13th, 2006 at 08:37 pm

I haven't added anything in a couple of days. I did use a coupon that saved me $2 on dog food today, so I will add it to the challenge.
prev. total $5660.00
today 2.00
new total $5662.00

spent money today

June 13th, 2006 at 07:06 pm

I just got back from the hospital. I am going in for a colonoscopy on Thurs. morning so I had to go and pick up the prep kit for it. Do you guys know how much i am going to have to drink tomorrow?
I know it is a smart thing to do, but it is expensive and I have no insurance. I had it done 2 years ago and it was $400 for the hospital. Today it is $900 and that does not count the doctor fee.
I put $500 on my credit card, but I used the wrong card. I am so mad at myself. I just got a new card with 0 interest and 1% cash back, but I pulled out my old card by mistake. Darn!!

My name on the cash register

June 13th, 2006 at 01:18 pm

We went to our usual place to eat last night. i almost always order the same thing every night.
The restaurant just switched to a computer system where each waitress punches in the order they just took.
To my surprise, they had put me on the computer.
My ticket last night read "Julie's usual" Pretty neat, huh??

My mail

June 12th, 2006 at 09:19 pm

Ray does a lot better with her mail than i do. All I got was junk and a check for 29 cents. I don't know why I get these tiny checks once in a while. It is from a company I once owned some stock in, but I sold it all. It is Food Lion!!

Chasing the ground hog!!

June 12th, 2006 at 07:35 pm

My little poodle, Holly, needed to go out to potty. I usually just open the door and let her go!!
Today, I did not notice there was a ground hog out by the porch, feeding on the corn I put on the ground.
Holly chased the groundhog and I chased Holly. I am so glad she did not catch the ground hog cause it was much bigger than her.
I got my dh paycheck and cashed it, then did the envelope method. I am so happy when there is enough money for ALL the envelopes.

Pay day

June 12th, 2006 at 01:39 pm

Today is payday, so that is always a day to look forward to. I make out my husband's check based on the number of hours he has put in during the week. I need to make a trip to North Carolina today to the liquor store too. I have not been for a while! So, it looks like a busy day.

Cooking out on the creek

June 11th, 2006 at 11:07 pm

Looking forward to going outside and cooking hamburgers on the grill. Get to sit outside and just listen to the creek ripple by and watch the fire flies!! Have a nice evening! (a frugal one too)

The other half!!

June 11th, 2006 at 08:37 pm

I just got back from seeing how the other half lives. We got a call from a couple wanting to build a new house. They want to down size. Their house now is on about 20 acres. Big long drive way. Lushly planted yard. Fancy pool in the backyard.

They showed us all thru the house but although the rooms were big, i was not that impressed. The house was too dark for me. I don't like real dark houses or real dark wood.

My white, bright, house looks good to me! We figured out who they were. They own a huge beverage supply house right in the center of town. We are talking about some big $$$ here.

But we told them we could not take anything for about a year. My dh is a one man show and does all the work himself, so it takes a while to build a house!

grocery shopping

June 11th, 2006 at 06:31 pm

i went grocery shopping today. Now that I have stocked up on major items, I don't seem to spend very much, under $35 today. I was craving low carb ice cream and it was on sale and I saved $2. I will add that to my challenge money, bringing my new total to $5660.00

Dinner dollars!!

June 11th, 2006 at 05:26 pm

We went to a dinner party last night. Since we usually eat out on Sat. night, I thought I would add some of the money we saved last night to my challenge money. I had to bring bread for the 20 plus guests, so spent about $8.
But I saved at least $10 for dinner, plus I walked for 30 minutes and had a no gas day yesterday, so I will add $12 to the challenge money.
Prev. total $5646.00
today 12.00
new total $5658.00

A good time was had by all!!

June 11th, 2006 at 03:04 pm

We had a wonderful time at the dinner party last night. The food was great, but it was a bit hot. She wanted the whole party outside, but until the sun set about 8:30, it was pretty warm.
I knew none of the ladies would wear shorts, and I was right!
So we were pretty warm, but the food was great. I really went off my diet and had cheese and crackers and a few bites of chocolate cheesecake!

frugal day

June 10th, 2006 at 09:04 pm

Well it has been a quiet and frugal day today. A no spend day!! That is 2 this week, a record for me! I stayed home all day, used no gas. We are going to a dinner party tonight and maybe another one afterward, so no food costs!
We are driving the old car tonight, it is a 1933 Ford Victoria. I hope it can make it up that steep mountain.
It is clear today, so I am looking forward to seeing the moon set over the beautiful mountain view!

Another party!!

June 10th, 2006 at 07:10 pm

i can't believe it, I just got invited to another party tonight. They just decided this morning to invite 35-40 people over for a party!!
The guy that owns the local rental place, has a place all fixed up called "Rick's playhouse" He has a live band that he plays in for fun and there is a dance floor!
I know I am too old for this kind of thing, but I sure am going to try and make it to both parties if we can leave the first one early enough!
I wish I had these problems when i was a lot younger!!!

Going to a party

June 10th, 2006 at 02:25 pm

I am going to a party tonight. I do love parties, even as old as I am. It is at a house (that my husband built) with a beautiful mountain sunset view, which I really enjoy. We will have dinner with about 20 other people.
Last sat. night I went to a reunion dinner and the saturday night before, it was a 50's party where all the guests dressed up.(dinner too)
I love it!!

saving for challenge

June 9th, 2006 at 08:25 pm

I did my stair challenge, my 30 plus minutes walking, my no go to town, waste gas, plus a little saving with my advantage car. Total is $6 to add to my challenge money.
Prev. total $5640.00
today 6.00
new total $5646.00

Christmas shopping!!

June 9th, 2006 at 04:45 pm

I bought my first christmas present today, two pair of jeans for dh. He has been needing them for a while, but I just haven't ordered them.
Now he is wearing shorts, so I will give them to him for christmas.
I usually get his jeans at Walmart, but the last time we looked they had none his size and his inseam.
He has lost almost 40 pounds and has a 34 inch waist. For some reason, I can't find them with a 29 inch inseam.
So I ordered from Penny's, but they were on sale for $22.
It is so hard to buy for christmas any more because there is nothing we need. (Food is a favorite present)

Home shopping

June 9th, 2006 at 01:42 pm

I always play the tv behind me when I am on the computer. This morning, the news was gruesome, so I switched to Home shopping network. Immediately a cuff watch caught my eye.
You see, I grew up with watches that you wind. (I still have one, but it does not work)
I have 10 other watches that I like, but the batteries are all dead. Last time we had a battery put in my husband's watch is cost over $20.
Heck, none of my watches cost much more than that.
So I headed to the phone with the HSN number in hand to order that pretty cuff watch. It is only $20 and I don't have a working watch.
I thought it over and came back up here to think of reasons why I don't need that watch!!
I have a clock in several rooms in my house and a real good clock in the car!!
Bt the time I pay shipping and handling, the watch will be closer to $30.
There is a clock on this computer!
How am I doing??

survey

June 8th, 2006 at 10:14 pm

I just took a survey which will pay me a dollar. I wonder how some of you get the big paying surveys?

I screwed up!!

June 8th, 2006 at 08:30 pm

Not sure what i did!
prev. total $5638.00
today 2.00
new total $5640.00

sorry!!!

Not much!!

June 8th, 2006 at 08:29 pm

Not much to add to my challenge, but every little bit helps. I did my 30 minute walk (only 16 flights of stairs) and I saved a dollar on tipping last night cause the waitress was totally terrible. Oh, I gave her $5 for our $20 meal, but I usually leave $6. So I am adding that $2 to my challenge. I stayed home all day so far, so no spending and no gas oday 2.00

disappointed in service

June 8th, 2006 at 06:08 pm

We went to our usual restaurant last night and got a new waitress. Oh, she had waitressed before at another place and knew us.
She seemed more interested in talking to customers than waiting on us.
Someone else brought our glasses and ice. She took our order and brought bread. My husband never got his salad and someone else brought out our food. I kind of wish I had a lot of singles, because she did not deserve a $5 tip (for a $22 meal)
I usually leave $6 for the girls, but I saved a dollar last night.

Balanced all the checkbooks

June 8th, 2006 at 04:33 pm

We have several checking accounts, but two we use mainly. I have not balanced them in almost 3 months, so I made my self sit down and work on that this morning. Happy to report the job is done and they all balanced to the penny!!

moles

June 8th, 2006 at 02:34 pm

We have had a problem with moles in our yard for years. We finally asked the owner of the local Ace, what to do. He suggested using milky spore to kill the insects in the lawn, that the moles feed on.
So last year, we spent $1000 and spread it on the lawn. We have more moles than ever this year. They stop at our neighbor's yard.
The yard across the street is never taken care of. It looks great. We are frustrated, to say the least.
Wish I had that $1000 back!

critters

June 8th, 2006 at 01:54 pm

Well there are certain critters that are determined that I won't sleep in late. The first was my dog, Holly, who had to go potty at 5 am. (that is our fault, we forgot to take her out last night)
Then my least favorite cardinal, starting pecking at my bedroom window at 6:30 am. I finally gave up and got up!
I need to balance all our checking accounts, but now I am too sleepy!

title insurance

June 7th, 2006 at 08:34 pm

We bought a piece of property on Oct. 19th of last year. We are building a spec house on it. (for sale) I just got the title insurance on it today.
I wonder if someone is making a lot of money on title insurance.
Hopefully, we will sell that house this year and the owner will get title insurance on it again. Seems like a rip off, like we could just transfer it over without a fee. (it cost several hundreds for title insurance)

Dinner at home

June 7th, 2006 at 07:13 pm

I ate dinner at home last night which saved at least $20. I did 30 minutes on my treadmill and also saved a dollar in gas from not going to town. I am adding $22 to my challenge money!
prev. total $5616.00
today 22.00
new total $5638.00

How long do cardinals live?

June 7th, 2006 at 02:40 pm

I have a cardinal that wakes me up every morning. As soon as it gets light, she starts hitting the window. Then she will go away and come back and do it again. Over and over, until I finally give up. I hung some alum. pans outside but that does not help. I sure wish she would go live somewhere else, but with four full feeders in the yard, I doubt she will.

I did it!!

June 6th, 2006 at 09:43 pm

I have had a no spending day today. This does not happened to me very much because we go out to eat every night except Sunday.
But today, I never left the house. I have supper cooking in the crockpot!
I used no gas! It is hard to believe!!
