Happy Halloween

October 31st, 2014 at 06:14 pm

Hope you all have fun. We are invited to a halloween party tonight, costumes are optional. But we always wear costumes, there is too much of the "kid" in us!
We even wore costumes out to eat a couple of Halloweens when nothing was going on. (no parties)
There is even a cash prize tonight!

$20 challenge:

Prev. total $17,785.00
today 7.00

dividend from EMC

October 29th, 2014 at 04:30 pm

I received a dividend from EMC stock this week. I have learned how to transfer the money from my Edward Jones account to my checking account. I like to reinvest my stock dividends, but some stocks do not allow this, so they pay it out. I am adding $48 to my $20 challenge.

Prev. total $17,725.00
today 48.00
new total $17,773.00

October 22nd, 2014 at 03:16 pm

Today is social security day which means that $518 will be added to my $20 challenge.
The good news is that hubby is feeling much better. It must have been food poisioning. He scared me on Sunday night. He was white as a ghost and did not seem to know where he was. I was dressed and ready to take him to the hospital. Gosh, I am too old for this!

Remember that old song! Well, he's back!!! Hubby got home from Florida. Sadly, he is very sick. He thinks he might have gotten food poisioning. He was so sick last night, I thought I was going to have to take him to the hospital Emergency room. He is still not feeling well today. I was up with him all night long.
I got a check from capital one for credit card rewards. I will add it to my $20 challenge:

A lonesome week

October 19th, 2014 at 02:48 pm

It has been a very lonesome week for me. My husband went to Florida for 5 days to visit with his dad. His dad just celebrated his 93rd birthday.
We have been married for almost 38 years and the only time we have been apart was when he had to make these trips.
Twice, someone rang the doorbell while I was here alone; once at night. That slways upsets me, even tho I have my fur babie for protection. However, Molly only weighs 14 pounds and Abbey weighs 8 pounds, so I doubt that they could do more than bark.
To top it all off, my double oven went out!!
It is the last of my original appliances to go. It is 20 years old!

Maybe this is a good excuse to stop cooking, you think?
He is coming home tonight and I can hardly wait. I will put a big "welcome Home sign" on the door.

$20 challenge:

Previous $17,087.00
today 7.00
new total $17,094.00

Happy Columbus day!

Found a quarterI

October 12th, 2014 at 06:34 pm

I found a quarter at Ingles the other day. That is only the 3rd time that I have found money (change) all year.
I think it is strange that I only earned 6 cents on my checking account for the entire month and I had $8000 sitting in it. I guess I am better off looking for change! I sure wish these interest rates were pick up. I am getting 1/10 of 1 percent on my business and personal checking accounts. I have found a money market account that is paying over 1%, but it is only good for 6 months.

Update on $20 challenge

October 10th, 2014 at 08:19 pm

My computer has been idle a few days because we had a storm. I thought I was going to have to hire someone to look at it, or even get a new one, but I fixed the p roblem myself today. I turned the circuit breaker to this room on and off and that did the trick. Everything else in this room was working perfectly, so who knows?

My $20 challenge stands at $17,063.00

Brrr, it's cold

October 5th, 2014 at 02:33 pm

I woke up to frost on the lawn this morning. There is no telling how cold it got. We use to have a contest here to see who could go the longest without turning on the heat. I never won, but I did pretty well. (Usually someone from Florida won)
In January I had a heart attack and I have been on blood thinners ever since. That makes me cold all the time, so My heat was turned on this morning. I paid $1.99 per gallon for propane this year.
What did you pay?

I am adding $13 to my challenge today.

Prev. total $17,011.00
today 13.00
new total $17,024.00

I will add the interest from my local bank. At this point I am getting 1% interest in one account and 1.25% in the other account. These rates are only good for 6 months.
