I received $275 in dividends from a certificate of deposit that I hold in a local back. I will add it to my $20 challenge.
My question is: I received a letter this week from this bank, telling me that they are closing my branch. I have a jumbo C.D. which I cannot cash out without penalty until Jan. 2015. Right now, I will lose $550 in interest (penalty) if I cash out.
My problem is, they will be moving my account to another state, probably Alabama, I perfer to do my banking in person, not by mail. Online is really difficult for me.
Should I just take the penalty and cash out, so my funds will not be moved out of state (where, I do not know) or should I stay put. I have talked to the bank people in person, but got no help.
What would you do?

I redeemed my chase rewards for the month. They no longer send you a check. Now, they deposit directly into your checking account, which is fine with me.

My four mutual funds are: vangard star, am. century heritage, janus, and invesco health. (Plus I have others, but these are the 4 I am funding right now. I recently added to 2 of these funds.
Star fund $200
janus fund $300
That makes my year to date total in mutual funds $2600.

I have decided to make a mutual fund challege for myself.
Over the past several years, my husband and I (he is a builder) have been building spec houses for sale.
I have always been a saver, so I have tried to save money the past few years, to buy land and build these homes for cash.
We have 7 pieces of land now, all completely paid for. (All have a great view of the mountains)
I have not made any interest on the cash in my accounts, cause rates are so low. A few months ago, I decided to go back and invest in mutual funds instead of savings account.
I started the mutual fund challenge (but I didn't call it that) on May 5, 2014.
So far, I have been able to invest $2100 into mutual funds in the past 2 and a half months. My goal for the year is $7000.
I will update every time I add to my mutual funds.
Currently,
Mutual fund challenge YTD $2100.00
Goal for 2014 $7000.00

Most women like to buy clothes and/or shoes. I like to buy land. Today, I resisted temptation to go to a land sale. This is not an auction. Over the past 3 years, I have attended many of the sales and have bought 10 pieces of property. We build spec homes on them, for sale.

Sadly, I knew nothing about mutual funds when I was younger. It was not until I had moved to this area and was in my 40's, that I began reading about mutual funds, mostly in Money Magazine.
I opened my first mutual fund in 1988. I chose Twentieth Century Funds. (Now American Century) I still have my first statement of account. I liked twentieth century because they had no minimums. You could open an account for any amount and add to it whatever you could afford.
At that time I was a waitress, making $2.01 an hour and tips were very poor. We lived in an area where the locals had never heard of tipping. I usually made around $12 in tips a day, more at night.
I would come home, count out my tips and put a few dollars away every day, to start a mutual fund account. My first fund was 20th century Heritage, now American century Heritage. I still have it.

The allstar game is this week, so I won't be adding any money to the challenge for braves wins. They did win yesterday at Wrigley Field. What an interesting history that ball field has. It is 100 years old this year.

I am always amazed at some of the lost change people find. C.B. comes to mind. She is always reporting that she found change on the ground.
Well, last year, I found a grand total of 15 cents.
Yesterday, I found my first change of the year and it is already July. I found 34 cents. Oh well, I am beating last years total!

I did my gorcery shopping yesterday. I saved $17 using my advantage card. I sometimes watch " extreme couponing" and wonder how they get all those coupons? Our local paper never has any coupons, The only ones I get are printed out at checkout with your receipt.

Over the past few years, we have bought about 10 lots at local land sales. These were not auctions; we paid the asking price. My husband is a builder, but we just have to many lots, so we have decided to put some of them up for sale.
I will owner finance, with a low down payment and 5% interest for up to 10 years. I ran an ad in the paper and just got my first call today.
We have a very nice mountain view lot in a gated subdivision, one acre, It has river and lake access. It is located between Murphy, N.C. and Hayesville, N.C. off of highway 64. It is one acre. It has been appraised at $100,000. I am asking $30,000.
I have 2 acres with a mountain view in a gated subdivision. It has a clubhouse, swimming pool and tennis courts. Original asking price was $120,000. I am asking $45,000.
I also have one acre, in Blairsville, Ga. with KILLer mountain views. Original price was $120,000. I am asking $55,000.
(opps, the 2 acres is near Hiawassee, Georgia)
Anyone want to buy some mountain view land??

We went to a great party last night. They had live music and we even got up and danced.
Dh wanted to be especially careful abut driving last night cause he highway patrol was out in full force.
He was very careful to take his own beer to the party. It was a non alcoholic beer, so he stashed it (hid) in the refrigerator.
He felt very safe driving home until he realized that he forgot his drivers license and wallet at home.
(red cars get stopped more than any other color, did you know that?)
:ucky for us, we made it home without getting stopped. The braves won last night, their 9th in a row.

We sold and closed on our spec house about 2 weeks ago. Hubby has started another spec house in the same neighborhood; great mountain view and on a creek.
The people that bought the house stopped by this week. They said it is the best built house that they have ever owned, and they have lived in 21 new houses!
Wow, I am married to a builder and I have only ever lived in 4 new houses in my lifetime!

Happy 4th. We are just staying home tonight. We went out to dinner last night. On the way home, we got stopped in a traffic ( license) check about a block from our house. The officer must have known us cause he said, he thought we had a red corvette. We replied that we do, but tonight we are driving the yellow one. He asked which one is newer? Neither one. We have a 2008 with 22,000 miles and a 2010 with 15,000 miles. My hubby keeps them so clean, they both look brand new. Now, hubby wants a brand new one!! He is such a hard worker, I usually let him splurge on new cars.

I opened up a new business checking account last week, after we had our house closing. C and S bank is offering 1% interest for 6 months. It is not much, but it is for money that I will need this year to built the new spec house.
I love the first of the month, cause that is when interest is credited to my accounts. I earned $101 in interest at C and S, so I will add that to my challenge money.

I have several stocks (9) that I hold in my Edward Jones account. Some of them pay dividends in cash. Since Edward Jones pays very little interest, I usually take a check for that money every few months. I will take today's check for $174, plus $5 for last night's braves win and add it to my $20 challenge.
New challenge total $7612.00
