Balanced all the checkbooks

June 8th, 2006 at 04:33 pm

We have several checking accounts, but two we use mainly. I have not balanced them in almost 3 months, so I made my self sit down and work on that this morning. Happy to report the job is done and they all balanced to the penny!!

I learned recently how easy and convenient it is to use the phone to check my account. Use the speaker phone and punch in the customer service number on your statement. Once you learn the menu choices it goes really fast. You don't have to wait for the voice to finish the choices. It keeps me up to the minute on my balance, and tells me my direct deposits are in and how much they were. It's also a fast way to keep tabs that my account isn't hacked or robbed. If the balance matches, everything is okay.

I don't use the check register that comes with checks. Throw it away. I bought a bound single-entry book at Wal-Mart. It lasts for years. The check record is much better to keep and read and plan in that book. I don't carry a checkbook, only a single check for cash when I go to the bank. I don't use ATMs. If I ever loose my purse, there won't be checks, CCs, ATMs or Debit cards to worry about.
