A blind date changed my life

February 18th, 2016 at 02:32 pm

I had never gone on a blind date. I had recently moved out of my house and was going thru a divorce, when a friend from another town, called me. Her son had a best friend, who had a single, older brother.
She wanted to set me up on a blind date.
So I went. I met him at her house. He took me out that night. We went dancing. When we got back, we spent all night, sitting on the floor in her living room, just talking.
He had to be at work at 6 a.m. the next morning, so he never got to go home and get any sleep. I invited him to go to a party the following night. (It was a Jr. Woman's club party and I was president of the club.)
He declined and I felt very sad.
The next afternoon, after getting some sleep (and taking my phone off the hook) my girlfriend called.
My blind date had been trying to get hold of me all day and wanted to take me to the party. (As it turns out, he had another date and had to break it first.)

He showed up at my house, all dressed up and we went to the party and had a great time! We spent every evening together after that. Some of you may not believe in love at first sight, but I know it can happen. It happened to me. 39 years ago today.

We have been together ever since then, Feb. 18th, 1977.

Happy 'together' anniversary!! Love arrives to us in so many ways.

    Aaaawwww, that is so sweet.

I definitely believe in love at first sight. It's always fascinated me that you can tell just by looking at someone that they can be such a compatible life mate. But our eyes met across the room and the rest is history. It was the same for my parents.

I LOVE your story. You've told some of it before, but I love that you stayed up all night talking AND he ended up taking you to the dance!

He so wanted to go out with you again, that he canceled another date! It was meant to be, wasn't it, Julie? Smile

What a sweet story. I try to remind myself to be open to random events like that. Too often we all rush through our lives and tend not to pay attention if it's not on "our agenda."

I was wondering too, along the lines of PS's comment, how you felt about going on a blind date? Were you open to going on a blind date or did you resist?

    Happy belated anniversary!

I've been on one blind date before, it turned out well, but not quite as well as yours. Smile
