$1.45 per gallon for gas

January 25th, 2016 at 08:43 pm

I just got back from grocery shopping and filling up my car with gas. Using my Ingles advantage card, I was able to save 20 cents per gallon, making my gas purchase $1.45 per gallon. I have not seen gas that low since the 1970's. (I am so old, that I can remember gas was 18 cents a gallon when I first got my license.)
I used my advantage card to buy my groceries and saved $15, for a total of $18. I will add that to my $20 challenge.

Prev. total $2704.00
today 18.00
new total $2722.00

At the moment we are between $1.20 and $1.35 for premium gas (which is what I get) which is also pretty good! I was hoping to last the month without adding any more but unfortunately it looks like I will need to top up.

Wow, that is crazy! I do remember it dipped down below a dollar at some point in the 1990s, but that was short-lived.

I can't remember $0.18, but I remember $0.33, and it dropped as low as $0.29 whenever there was a gas war. The attendant filled your tank and washed your windshield. Often you got a steak knife or something like that with a few fill-ups. My folks collected those and had a set. No one had ever heard of self-serve.

I can remember filling up for about $.99 in 1997 in CA.

Here we're at $1.76 - I'm probably going to have to get a few gallons in the next few days.

Oh yes, I had never heard of self serve either. When we first moved here, there was a gas station on the square that always pumped your gas for you until they closed us a few years ago. They opened in 1949.
