sick puppy

My little girl, Molly has been sick. We took her to the vet about 3 months ago with neck and shoulder problems. She got an adjustment, but on Monday, she was acting like she was in pain.
We took her to the vets again and they took x rays. The vet said she would need surgery to fix the problem.
She needed to go to a specialist to get evaluated. On Tuesday,we took a trip to a town near Atlanta to the special vet there. They are going to try medication and confinement for 3-4 weeks, to see if surgery can be avoided.
The two vet visits were $460 and the surgery will run about $5000.
There is no question that we WILL spend the money on the surgery. Molly will be 6 next month and is such a joy to us. We will spend whatever it takes to make her well.
(Molly is a malta-poo. Her mother was a pure bred black poodle and her father was a pure bred maltese. She looks like her daddy and is the sweetest dog in the world.)

    I hope surgery can be avoided, but I know you can afford it and will enjoy her company.

    Wow, that is a lot of money. Do you have pet insurance to help with the costs?

    Poor thing! Here we have a big lost dog's shelter that has a vet there too, and if your pet needs expensive operations you can go there and it's cheaper option. It's about 40 mins away so we wouldn't really go unless we needed to. Perhaps you have a place like that where you are?

    No, no pet insurance. I have heard of it, but did not realize that surgery was so expensive.
