Just a dusting

WE just got a dusting of snow this morning. No porblem with the roads. Dh is trying to get the spec house finished up this week. He may have to go to Fla. next week. His father is 93 and the girlfriend that lives with him (for over 20 years) is almost 90.
They really need someone to come into their home and help them out several times a week. Dh's brother, who lives in the same town, is just too busy to help. He and his wife are going to inherit the duplex, cars, etc. that FIL owns, so you would think they could help out a little. (Take out the garbage, changes the sheets, etc.) But they can't seem to find the time.
Dh is going to make a trip and see if he can find someone to help out part time. Of course, we will have to pay for it.

    My mother had that problem with her sister, too. My aunt lived 30 minute drive away while my mother lived a whole day's drive away from their mom. Guess who did everything? My mother. It wasn't that my aunt didn't have the time so much as she chose not to deal with it. Drove me crazy.

    If your DH feels the situation is inequitable, he can take legal action, place his dad under guardianship based on cognitive disfunction. Perhaps it's time for dad and significant other to move to assisted living. Selling the family home will help pay for their care. A 2nd option is to dispute the will and any disbursement when the time comes. The estate may eventually payout but it will certainly delay and drag it out for years.

    This presumes the relationship between the brothers has disintegrated.
