Capital One interest

January 2nd, 2015 at 03:50 pm

I am adding my capital one interest to my $20 challenge. This week, I withdrew most of my money from Capital One. I feel badly about that because I have been with them for a long time. I started with an ING account back in 2004, before capital one bought them out.
Their rate have not been very good. I was only earning .0075 on my savings account; even less on my checking account. I switched most of the money to Mysavingsdirect, which is at Emigrant bank. They are paying 1.05% now. I wish the good old days of 5% interest would come back. I earned $9 in interest this month. I am still leaving a small balance at Capital One.

Prev. total $2029.00
today 9.00
new total $2038.00

I'm considering the same thing; like you, I've had an account at Capital One since the early days of online-only banks, when they were the best game in town, and I'm feeling a little guilt about moving the money to MSD -- but 0.3% additional interest in this climate is a significant difference!

Keep your eye on the rates, if Capital One improves perhaps you can reward them by switching back to them.

Yeah, I'm thinking of moving my money there, too. I thought they might get with it and up their rates after the others did, but they don't seem like they are going to. And honestly, my loyalty was really to ING, not C1-360.
