It has been such a sad week

March 13th, 2012 at 03:47 pm

For my husband and I. We can't seem to get over the passing of our little Holly. My hubby said, he will never get over it.
He held her on his lap, every night after supper, for almost 12 years. (she would have been 12 on May 14th)
She was so tiny and so cute. And smart. I bet you didn't know that the poodle was the 2nd smartest of all the breeds. She was definately the boss of the family! And the queeen of the couch.
Little poodles like to lay at the very top of the couch and she had no trouble jumping up there even tho she was less than 10 inches tall.
We never once left her. If she couldn't go on vacation with us, we just didn't go. She was always with us. Our baby.
Even the puppy (who is almost 3) misses her. She doesn't cry at night, thank goodness, but she just acts so sad and quiet. That's Molly!

I have not been keeping up with the $20 challenge at all this week. I know I have had some no use gas days and I think the stock market went up. I am just going to add $10 to the challenge.

Prev.total $3574.00
today 10.00
new total $3584.00

((Hugs)) Pet loss is just like any other loss. You will definitely grieve and at some point you will get over the hardest and saddest parts. Take care of yourselves!

I'm so sorry, Ima. I can't imagine how it will be to lose my cat someday, and he's only been with us a couple of years. So I know the bond will only get stronger and make the loss harder.

If it makes you feel any better, I've heard that dogs are much better-equipped to deal with loss than humans are, but are very sensitive to other emotions around them. Once you and your husband's grief starts to subside a bit, your puppy should pick up on that and start to feel better herself.

So, so sorry! We went through our doggie loss on Christmas Eve. Henry was the same age as Holly, and we miss him terribly. That said, we do feel a little better with each week that passes, but I feel like your husband... I'll never get over it! Our dog was a huge part of our lives, too. And he was a smartie... a border collie. The house just feels empty, doesn't it?

Sending you wishes for comfort and strength. I'm hoping that the hurt lessens for you soon. Hugs.

I really do know how you feel. When my 17 year old kitty died in October, I was devastated. I kept thinking I'd seen him out of the corner of my eye. I'd look outside and say "Where is the Cheat?" Still, the kids don't understand death and keep asking if "we can get him out of the ground."

He wasn't just a cat. He was the most awesome daredevil companion I could have ever wanted, and he'd been with me most of my adult life. I can't replace that. We just have to do the best we can.

I still tear up whenever I see a husky, and mine has been gone for four years now. We never really completely get over the death of our beloved pets, and that's the way it should be! They touch our hearts forever.

It took me a while to get over the death of my 18 year old kitty, so I understand how you feel. I'm so sorry you have to go through this very sad time. I wish there was something I could say that would make it better, but just know that you have many friends at SA who care and are sending you their best.

It took me a long, long time to get over my cat Monkey's death. Even now, I sometimes almost call Kari by the name Monkey. I still miss him terribly. He and Kari are SO different. It is hard to lose your pet/your friend - especially when they've been with you for so long. Frown
