$30 a day resolution

January 1st, 2012 at 08:26 pm

On Aug 31st, I made a decision to try and start saving $30 a day. I managed to put $30 in a large canister every day but the 4 days my dh went to visit his father in Florida. (He did not work that week)
I take the money and deposit it about once a month in my ING account. That is the one day is paying the most interest, .0094%.

So far, I have put away $3630 in my 4 month quest to save more money.

I have decided to continue this in 2012. Starting today, I am putting away $30 a day. I wish some of you could join me. It would not have to be $30, it could be $5 or $10; whatever works for you. The important thing is to do it everyday.

Anyone want to join me??

That is a neat idea! Where do you get the $30. cash each day to put in your canister? $30. each day for a month would be $900. I do save that much each month but I have everything done with automatic online payments and deposits. Just curious how you go about having so much cash on hand...I hardly ever see cash these days!! Hubby's pay is automatically put into checking account. It is very rare that we ever even go to the bank. My how things have changed.

    Have a great 2012!

If anyone can do it, you can Julie. I have no doubt you will be successful. Is the $30 a day from $$ allocated for monthly living expenses that you put in envelopes?

You are right that it's not how much you save, but more about getting into the habit of doing it daily and making it a priority.

The $30 a day comes from the cash I put away weekly in envelopes. When I first got married, I started using the envelope system and putting cash away in seperate envelopes. It has always worked for me, so I have continued to use it.
The cash usually comes from whatever I have left over when I do my budget, the "corvette envelope" (cause I paid off the corvette last year but dh does not know it) and my allowance in cash each week.

Good luck with your goal! I'm sure you will do great. I do agree that any amount would work. $5/day is $150 per month, which would be a great amount for anyone to start with.
