$58 dollars for gas!

March 26th, 2011 at 09:18 pm

That is the most I have ever spent in my life. I paid $3.85 per gallon and had to buy almost 15 gallons.
Wow, I can remember when gas was under 20 cents a gallon. The stations use to have gas wars all the time. For that 20cents they also pumped your gas, washed your windshield, and checked your water and oil.
My poor husband has a 35 gallon work van. I guess I need to raise his allowance.

Yep, Ima, better raise his allowance and suggest he not let it get close to empty!

Right now our gas is at $3.57 a gallon, and the whole time we were driving to Charleston and back here to Illinois, most of the prices were around $3.59 to $3.85. I imagine it will get to $4 a gallon by the summer, don't you?

My last fill up (about 25 miles before my blowout) was for $3.49, which was a little less than I'd seen it elsewhere along the road. While I was there pumping gas, a guy (maybe an employee?) came by and said they were washing windshields for free. I said sure, and he washed it. He then mentioned a chip in my windshield and that he could repair it for free if I had full coverage. I laughed, told him that I'd had that chip for at least 5 years, and that my 13+ year old car only had liability. Smile

I've seen $3.99 here. Haven't paid that. But, the gas stations do seem reluctant to pass the $4 mark. Summer is always another story.

Has anyone delved into why gas prices are so high? There is no shortage, there are huge reserves, the stations buy on the futures market, the tanks at the station are still full of lower priced product. Refiners costs have not increased...who is ripping us off? Is it just Exon stock?

While Libya supplies far more oil to Europe than the US, there's major unrest and upheaval in Syria, Bahrain, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. If those regimes are toppled, it WILL have major impact on US oil supply; that's why the stock market is so nervous.

Best price here in CT has been about $3.75 a gallon. My grandfather had his own garage and service station and I remember as a girl seeing his sandwich sign out in front of the station for .29 a gallon. Amazing.

I paid $3.85 a gallon, but I have to use premium.

That's amazing. When I was driving through Atlanta (Tucson to Raleigh) fifteen years ago, it was $0.80/ gallon. Gas prices used to be even cheaper in GA than they were in TX. Seattle gas has always been pricey but we still are a hair under $4, even for premium. So we aren't that much higher. Yikes.
