Can you spare the change??

February 11th, 2011 at 08:45 pm

I keep about $10,000 in my personal checking account. I accumulate that money to pay property taxes, car insurances (5), tags (5)income tax and medical expenses.
Today, I earned 74 cents in interest for the month. I hope the bank can spare the change!! I keep all of my cash at this one bank ( near the fdic insured maximum), so I am a very good customer.

I filled my car up today with premium and spent $48. That was for 14 gallons. I am glad I don't drive very much.

I have 6 one dollar bills to add to the $20 challenge.

Prev. total $1756.00
today 6.00
new total $1762.00

Yeah, you kind of wonder if they can spare that 74 cents or in our case...a whole 5 cents on our checking last month.

Oh, I don't know, 74 cents seems like an awful amount of stress to the banks finances Smile

We have all our checking and savings at credit unions. I logged into the savings account the other day and found that we had an extra $2.59 in the form of a dividend that is separate from the small amount of interest paid on the account. And while I would love to have $10,000 in the account, we don't, so this was a total surprise.

Julie, I have you beat. Our bank notified us that they are no longer giving interest (other than a savings account) and will charge $5. each month for each account if you don't maintain $1,000 and or other provisions. Also, you can avoid these charges if you will keep $10,000. combining all of your accounts. Also no interest. I've checked into some other banks like Chase and they're requiring more monthly minimums. This bank is convenient for me and I have 5 different accounts there including a savings and business account. I do have another money market that is paying 1.10%. Guess we're all just going to have to hold on.

Yes, aleta, I am just holding on. I have 7 different accounts at that bank and it is so much more convenient than banking online. My husband is a builder and sometimes we need to pay a subcontractor today and need quick acess to the money. I finally opened a new money market that will pay me 9/10th of one percent. (.009) if I keep six figures in it.
