2 straight weeks!

January 15th, 2010 at 03:25 pm

I made it for 2 straight weeks without going out to eat. Now, if you didn't know it, I have been eating out 5 days a week for several years. The owner of the restaurant that I go to, calls me a stock holder!!
I have been trying to do better this past year! Last night, was the first night I have gone out to dinner in 2010!

Plus, I had a gift certificate, so I saved $20 on my meal. I am adding that and another dollar (cause the stock market went up yesterday) to my challenge money.
Prev. total $381.00
today 21.00
new total $402.00

Eating out has been a normal feature of your lifestyle, one in which you seem to have saved plenty of money. You were continuing to save well, even with the nightly dinging out. Why are you changing?

There are so few places to eat here, I think we are just getting tired of eating the same food for so long.

A number of years ago when we curtailed our weekly visit to a local deli, they thought we'd moved or something. They were startled when we called in an order after a long break. After that conversation with them, we had to laugh. We never realized that they were so used to us showing up and that we did it so often!

So how did it feel? Had you missed it? Was it worth it? Just curious!

janH, that sounds very familiar. We were regulars at a deli on Fridays for YEARS. They recognized us many years later during infrequent visits. In my old age I am to lazy to go to all that effort for lunch.

I'd bet money that you've lost weight! Big Grin
We eat out so little, and the portions are so big I can usually turn them into DAYS of leftovers. But every time the scale ticks up, I notice our eating out bill has too. I think this is a big reason we will never be big "diner outers" even when we have more means. We used to eat out all the time before we had kids, and just notice a huge difference in our health, with preparing our own meals. We eat all the same stuff - but it just is fresher, tastes better, and apparently less fattening. My spouse is "underweight" but lost about 10 pounds in 6 months when I got pregnant. (He got laid off at the same time and decided to start cooking dinner every night, to save money. I didn't lose weight - because I Was pregnant - but I have maintained ever since having kids - without any effort. I Was gaining before, with the desk job and all the eating out).
