E mail from the IRS??

July 11th, 2009 at 09:03 pm

I got an e mail from the IRS yesterday. It states that I have a refund coming and I need to fill out the form in the e mail and send it back to them.
Does that sound possible? I know I never gave them my e mail address and I have no intention of filling out a form!
What do you think? The refund was only for $247 and I don't want to take any chances!!

They just normally send you out a check. Do not fill out forms with any bank info and what not. Or your ss#. You could call the IRS to find out.
Be careful! There is a lot of scam going on these days.

Definitely sounds like a scam. The IRS should not solicit you for personal info via e-mail. I agree you should call them if you think it's possible.

I agree with you both. The e mail did provide a phone number, but it is probably part of the scam.

Government bodies NEVER send emails, and NEVER ask for personal information. They have all the personal information they need.

If it were me, I would contact the IRS and let them know what you received and they will tell you. It definitely sounds like a scam. They have all of that info about you. This scam needs to be turned in to protect others from being taken.

The IRS never sends out e-mails. Definitely a scam. You can call the IRS and report the scam.

I talked to someone that works for H and R Block last night. It seems that something like this was going around in April and it has been reported.

Scam, definitely. You can spoof it to them though.

I haven't received that one yet. I usually get the one about my rich uncle that died in Africa. All I need to do is give them by bank account info and they will make the deposit for me....that's so nice of them. NOT!
