net worth went up!

May 2nd, 2009 at 02:48 pm

I did my net worth yesterday. It did go up a little thanks to the stock market. We are lower in cash, but we are using our own money to finish this house, so I had to transfer $10,000 to my business checking. Then bank will pay us back when the house is done.
We made a trip yesterday to North Carolina to pick out carpet for the new house. Then we stopped at Lowe's to pick out knobs for all the cabinet doors and drawers. We had to buy over 150 knobs and that adds up after a while. Houses always cost more than we think they will. Oh, I have $6 to add to my challenge money; the stock market went up 2 days, the braves won 2 games and I won 2 games of mah jong.
Prev. total $6773.00
today 6.00
new total $6779.00

You made me go count drawer pulls and cabinet pulls in kitchen and bath: only 18. Wish I had more, as that would mean I'd have more cabinets and drawers in which to hide all this mess. Do you manage to enjoy picking out things like that after you must have done it dozens of times?

Yes, I enjoy picking things out. This house has 2 kitchens, 5 baths and my husband did a lot of build in cabinets around the 3 fireplaces. It is truly beautiful!

I did a budget and divided every monthly expense in half...I get 2 paychecks a month...I included bday gifts, contact lenses..everything....I will cash my check every payday and then allocate it in the budget....is this what you did for 40 yrs??....its greatSmile

Yes, that is what I have done for over 40 years. It still works for me!!

Its great...cash is king...its the best way to budget..It makes more sense to see how much things cost per paycheck than per month...like my rent that is $1,120 a month..its reall $560 a paycheck, etc...

Right, I do my budget weekly cause that is when my husband gets paid, every Monday (self employed, but works by the hour)

I guess you have never tried to get 1 month ahead..where you would accumulate a months paychecks...this way you would start of the 1st of the month with a full months pay?....some people told me to do that, live off last months income

but i like your way better...per paycheck...

No, Matt, I have never tried to get one month ahead. I have several years of living expenses saved up if I had an emergency.
