Money can't always buy happiness.

January 7th, 2009 at 04:38 pm

I read yesterday that the world's 94th richest man, committed suicide. He threw himself in front of a train. apparently he had business dealings and had lost millions of dollars. I believe this was over in Germany. How sad.

MY husband's blue cross premium went up as of the first of the year. They take it directly out of our checking account, which I don't like. I am writing to the company and asking them to bill me instead. when I checked that envelope, I see that I hav overfunded it by $300, so I will add that to my challenge money.
Prev. total $$472.00
today 300.00
new toatl $772.00

Yes, I read about this, too, and could not believe it. How very sad. I guess having "only" millions instead of billions pushed him over the edge. It's a testament that connecting all your worth (figuratively) to the bottom line of your bank account is not the key to happiness. Living a good and meaningful life is so much more than how much $$ you have amassed.

I read a story about someone who was a broker who committed suicide after he invested his own money and his clients money in what turned out to be a scam. So sad that people see money as the reason to live or die.

I agree, I just told a coworker today that I would rather be poor and miserable after reading an article about a realtor for IL who committed suicide and his body was found today

You have to wonder when a loss of money becomes more important than your life. No matter what a person has I guess they can still see themselves as a failure in some situations. How sad that this has to happen. I sometimes think that my family would be better off to lose what we have and to began again. Some of our happier times was when we did not have much in money or material items to worry about. Less money = less worry? The first place we lived in had two bedrooms, a bathroom with no door only a curtain, pull chain lights, an extention cord that ran what ever appliances were working at the time, two wall plugs in the entire house. We paid my grandmother $50.00 per month to live there and was happy to be there. Used a space heater and lots of blankets to keep warm in the winter and lots of open windows in the summer. Our home now is 2,500 sq ft with three car garage, hugh monster lawnmower, golf and social membership, POA dues and I do long for the simpler days.
