Do you like spam?

November 18th, 2008 at 08:23 pm

I heard on the radio that spam is really selling now a days. The factory is working overtime to make the stuff and more and more spam is being sold.
Do you like spam? My husband does. He frys it in a pan and eats it with eggs for breakfast.
I wonder if spam has become more popular because of the economy?

I am sure it is, but I have never liked it at all. Same with my husband, he won't eat it.

I tried it once because it was free and it was okay. However, I don't think I would buy it.

If it is sliced thin, then cooked to a crisp, I can tolerate it. Maybe if it were minced to small bits, browned and added to a larger dish it would work for me. But it is immensely salty and greasy, isn't it? It's been twenty years since I last had it while camping in Arkansas. I could not eat it then. I wonder what the cost per ounce is. If I want meat, I'm thinking I can do better with chicken, or turkey, whose season is upon us.

I love Spam! I like it with eggs like your husband; I also like it in macaroni and cheese, inside of sushi and etc.

I think people may be buying more to stock up in their pantry incase economy gets worse. However one can usually runs for $3.75 where I am located so it's not cheaper than buying chicken.

I live in a multi-cultural city and spam is very popular among the multi cultural population.

In Hawaii, they eat tons of Spam, and when I was there, I ate some too. I like the Spam sushi roll. It's cheap and it's very good food to eat before a day of surfing (or in general being in the sun the water.)

I LOVE Spam!! I grew up in Hawaii, and we ate Spam w/almost everything. Spam Musubi, Spam w/Ramen noodles, Spam w/rice. etc. There's really no limit w/Spam, and they're really affordable too =)

When I was little my Mom used to grate Spam and grate cheese together. We would eat it on really soft white bread with home grown tomatoes. It was one of my favorite sandwiches.

Well, I don't eat spam either and I don't think it is very cheap. I knew it was very popular in Hawaii.

Oh, that spam. I thought you were referring to junk email.

I remember eating it as a child and I did like it. Now, my DH has high BP so we avoid highly salted foods.

I do not like it. It is extremely salty. My ex-hub used to eat Spam.

Mmmm. . . Spam Musubi. We ate fried Spam as kids but I haven't eaten it as an adult except in the musubi. I have never bought a can of spam. Merch - ROFLOL!

yuck! Well, I have never actually tasted it but my mom always told me it was terrible. I wouldn't want to try it.

I will ditto the verse from Merch ... LOL!! I have never liked Spam, and now that I am older I can't even stand the smell of it. Not knowing my strong feelings against the stuff, my son brought some home one day and cooked it up while I was out ... as soon as I walked in the house I was shouting "Oh, GROSS, who cooked SPAM??!!!! GAG!!!" (He didn't think much of it either.)

The only way I have ever had it was at a Hawaiian restaurant. They fry it then put a sweet sauce on it and wrap it in rice and seaweed. DE-LISH!!!

I know our Dollar store sells it for $1 a can, but I've never bought it.

Ugh... salty, fatty, and mysterious. Not my thing!

Huh. That is indeed a good question. Perhaps the economy has an effect on the sale of Spam.

Personally I don't care too much for Spam either, but I've eaten it before and liked it OK. Canned meat goodness.

I haven't had Spam or its similar cousin Treat in a long time. But I think its fairly good.
I like to microwave the entire chunk of meat just enough till its just warm and then slice it fairly thin to make sandwiches.

As a kid, I loved it. My mother would bake it like a ham, with brown sugar glaze and some cloves stuck in the top. However, I tried it within the last year or so, and was disappointed. I guess my tastes run to spicier foods now, because it just seemed bland. As far as cheap processed pork products, fried pork roll is much tastier!

I think we are all looking for deals. I haven't had Spam since I was a child, but if it will help save some money I will try it again.

I was at the deli the other day and this lady and her husband were buying so much lunch meat and then I started understanding these were there meals for the week. Yikes! It is amazing what we will do to save money.

I am not wondering what others will do during the holiday seasons? This year for Thanksgiving we are having sort of a pot-luck. My mom and all my family along with a few friends are going to pitch in for the meal. There will be about 12 of us and I'm sure we will all have a great time.

Christmas: We are cutting way back! I am going to look for sale items and only one gift each. We use to buy several gifts for a person, not this year! We just can't afford it!

Spam... I don't know what's in it, but I know what I like.

I saw that on a t-shirt once. I don't particularly care for it, but actually had some the other day at Mom's. Blah.

  24. Thrifty Ray Says:

I remember having it when I was really young, but have not had it in decades. There are too many other options that I would choose over canned, chopped, processed mystery meat..that I doube we would ever buy it. My grown kids have never had it, at least not at home.

  25. whitestripe Says:

    never had it Smile
