Driving "ole yeller"

June 16th, 2008 at 07:06 pm

I have to drive "ole yeller" this week while Big Red gets fixed at the auto body shop.
This car is so weird. It has no keys. It has no door handles. It has a fob that you carry. The door automatically locks itself when you get inside. You push a button to start the car and push a button to get the door to open. The car automatically unlocks itself if you and the fob get within 100 feet.
Well, I stopped at the grocery store to get some crackers and they were BOGO, so I saved $4 to add to my challenge.
Prev. total $15,624.00
today 4.00
New total $15.628.00

ok, i have followed your postings and know your talking about a corvette, but cant remember the year. Not sure the year is even important for my concern though, umm...dont you worry about the electronics going haywire and locking you in the car? or being unable to turn off the car? Maybe cuz my last car was a Saturn that i have these concerns, but the electronics in my Saturn did some crazy (unsafe) things at times.

I would definitely not like the car unlocking when I got close. I think that is a big safety disadvantage. That means if I'm sitting in the family room watching TV, the car would unlock itself as the driveway is right outside the window, maybe 15-20 feet away from the sofa. Is there a simple way to disable that?

I had a rental car recently and the doors unlocked when you parked the car. I don't like that either. Again, a safety risk. If I happen to park in an area that isn't safe or there is some suspicious-looking person near me, I'm not unlocking the door until I feel it is safe to get out, and then I'm only unlocking my door, not all the doors. In this day and age, with car-jacking and such, I don't know who thought automatically unlocking all the doors was such a bright idea.

It is a brand new corvette, 2008. My old one does not have those features (2004) and I like it better. I don't like the fact that if the driver walks away with the fob in your pocket, you are automatically locked in the car.
