Figuring my gas mileage

June 4th, 2008 at 06:24 pm

After reading about it, in Debt proof living newsletter, I decided to figure out my gas mileage. So, I filled up last Sunday (10 days ago) and again just now. (wed. afternoon)
I had driven a total of 95 miles. It took 4.94 gallons to fill up my car at a cost of $20.69

95 miles divided by 4.94 gal.=19.23 mpg
$20.69 cost divied by 95 miles = 22cents per mile.

All of my miles are in town driving, so that is not too bad. Too bad so many of our cars need premium gasoline.

Have you figured out how many miles per gallon (mpg) your vehicle is getting??

I did this a couple of weeks ago and have been keeping track everytime I fill up (using my trip odometer) that way if I start losing mileage, I know to have the mechanic (aka Hubby) look and see what is going on. I am currently getting 20 mpg but I have a 16 gal tank (I have a largish sedan) and paid $3.76 to fill up this morning for a total of $60.16.

average 18mpg van & 36mpg subcompact (40mpg on the freeway - LOVE that car).

Seriously considering getting rid of the van.

I love sports cars but think I'll hold out for an affordable Tesla (all electric). I have never owned a car that got less than 30mpg, before this van. & I have grown to hate it.

Yes, we calculate our mileage by resetting the trip odometer to zero each time we fill up. Right now we are only getting 26-27mpg because almost all of our driving right now is stop & go driving on my commute. When we were doing a combination of highway and stop & go driving, we were getting 28-29mpg. We have a '99 Camry.
