I subscribe to Debt proof Living. It used to be called Cheapskate monthly.
This month's addition mentions that dog owners spend around $2000 per years on pet related purchases.
It also says that a typical american family of four with a moderate food budget spends an average of $904 a month on groceries!
Now, I know I eat out a lot, but i spend about $40 a week for the two of us. We spend about $100 a week eating out. That really seems like a lot of money, $904 a month. What do you think??
Interesting tidbits!!

As for a $900 food budget?.....don't think so. Not even for one month, let alone two. Try three months. That kind of cost has to stem from entertaining guests, buying a lot of frozen prepared meals, prepared anything, for that matter......I much prefer cooking from scratch, buying a little produce a couple of times a week, some fresh bread and milk. Once a month it's pet food....

My eyes actually got fixated when I looked at the $2,000. a year for pet related expenses. That's $166 a month. For the people wanting security, it might be way less to have a security alarm system. Best part, it doesn't eat. We had a samoyed and never paid that much. I wonder where they are getting those figures from. Apart from an aging dog or one that is sick, I can't see how you would pay that much.
