Too much money

I had too much money in my phone/cell phone/DSL envelope, so I am adding $80 to my challenge money today. My goal is to save at least $20,000 for the challenge this year.

    Isn't the phone/cell/DSL a recurring amount each month? Those are bills that are the same for us from month to month. I'm not on the envelope system, but if I was, I'd know exactly how much to put in those envelopes, so there wouldn't be any extra.

    What happends is, I get an extra payday (5 mondays) once in a while. It has been a long time since I have really checked my envelopes and in some fixed catagories I have an extra 3-4 weeks of expenses saved in that envelope. I might as well add that to savings. Hope that explains it!

    That makes sense. You fund each envelope a certain amount from each pay, rather than funding a set amount each month. That would explain the excess. Certainly nothing wrong with having too much money.
