43 years ago today

February 12th, 2008 at 01:59 pm

I got married. Yes, it was on Lincoln's birthday and I eloped. It was not a smart decision. My first husband had one main interest and it was not me. It was sports, mainly football.

We were married for 12 long years. I finally moved out in Jan. of 1977. I met my dh in Feb. of 1977. He proposed to me on April, 2, 1977. My divorce became final on April 5th, 1977. We got married on Friday, may the 13th, 1977.

So, I was single for 5 weeks in the past 43 years.

This time, I got the marriage "thing" right!!

Ima, I noticed you said you moved out in Jan. 1977. Just curious, was it during the Super Bowl? Smile
    Couldn't resist.

Anyway, I'm so happy for you that you found Mr. Right so quickly. You are very lucky!

Note this is not a typical scene. Many times clearsightedness comes much later after a serious break up. Glad you didn't need an eye exam!

congrats on 43 wonderful years. i wonder what football on tv was like 43 years ago. was there any football on tv then? though happiness and marriage bliss are to be celebrated everywhere, football is still wonderful entertainment.

The funny thing, that alot people put priority on sports over regular life. I here in boston and when the patriots lost, half of the town called in sick.... sick from what... from seeing a bunch of overpaid guys chasing a ball? don't get me wrong, alot of these guys have talent... and deserve what they get. but an average joe calling in sick because of that... makes me actually sick to see/hear that sort of stuff.

Wow, after my last divorce I was so scared - took me 9 years to remarry. It's good to hear that it worked well the second time.

I guess all the horror stories about divorce has scared me into getting married in the first place. Then I think about all the couples, like you for instance, and my grandparents, who are happy for a very long time. When I was little, I had no idea that my grandparents were married and had children before each other. Then my parents divorce was brutal, especially for me. That is when I decided that I would not even try. If I had children, which I do now, I would just stay unmarried and keep them myself, causing no extra emotional problems for them. Me being their mother is strain enough on them.
