Last big electric bill

September 26th, 2007 at 02:43 pm

This should be my last big electric bill for the year. August is usually the hottest month. I was surprised to see that this bill was a few cents lower than last months. I budget $160 a month because that is the highest bill I have ever gotten since living in this house for 11 years. This month's bill was under $117 which is not bad. I have a really big house plus 2-2 car garages, one with an eff. apt. above it.
My envelope with the electic money has kind of built up and I have $120 left over in it to add to the challenge.
also, the stock market was up and the braves won, so I will add $122 to my challenge money.
Prev. total $20,955.00
today 122.00
new total $21,077.00

I admire you so much for challenging yourself and sticking with it! I missed reading your entries while I was gone and am catching up. Smile

Oh yeah, I meant to ask how you heat your house in the winter. The house I'm now renting has one window unit that heats and cools. I am afraid to use it much this winter because of the expense! A few people have suggested getting a little kerosene heater or two and using those. So, if you won't have more big electric bills, do you heat with gas?

Yes, I heat with propane gas, we have central heat and air. I just gave away a kerosene heater. I didn't think that they halped very much and kerosene is expensive. (My husband used it for work, but it didn't help)

Ahhh, I see. Thanks for the reply. Smile Hopefully I won't need the heat until December. I'll just dress in layers and take hot showers rather than cool ones.

Just wondering what you do with the efficiency. Do you rent it out or just keep it for family and ocmpany? So many people up that way seem to do that.

Well, when we built it for the new car, we thought we would use it for company, but everyone always wants to stay in the house. So, it has never been used!

    Be careful.

Scottrade does not allow any Money Market accounts -AND- does CD at 10K +.

So much for taking care of the small investor.

Please correct this set of statmenets, if I am wrong. Thanks.

You’re correct about both. Scottrade offers no money market fund option and their CD min is $10,000. The rate they offer on their interest bearing cash account is also pretty low. If you stockpile your cash, I’d suggest moving it elsewhere. Scottrade must be profiting quite well from their cash accounts. Too bad most people don’t know better.
