$3800 plot

September 6th, 2007 at 12:49 pm

I just got an e mailed from my best friend. Her husband died last Friday and they had the service on Sunday. She was telling me of the costs; $7000 for the funeral and $3800 for the plot, plus $1600 for a marker (not headstone)
I had no idea a plot would cost so much.

when my father died, my mother bought 4 plots. She and my father are buried in 2 of them and I have the deed to the other two.
I do not plan to ever move back to Florida so I guess I should sell these plots. I don't know what a plot would cost around here. I guess I need to check into that. Depressing thought!

Cremation is our choice...cheaper all the way around. No plot,no ca$ket and no added expen$e heaped upon the survivors. And the funeral directors do love to pile on the expen$e$...that's how they make their $$$$.

That is insane! I had no idea plots are so expensive. Yeah, I'm going to take the cremation route as well.

It shouldn't surprize us. If buying property is expensive, the same should be for a plot. I'm not saying it's right. You use to be able a few years back of getting at least 2 plots at a nice location of the cemetery for that price. It is insane. Not to mention paying $7,000 for a funeral.

The average costs a few years back used to be $8,000. for everything including the plot.

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend's husband, Ima Saver.

My DH & I also plan to go the cremation route, with memorial services held someplace other than a funeral home.

Exactly why we are going the cremation route, too. Though if you want no burial expenses there is always donating your body to science.

Wow! The cemetery where I am going to buy lots for my hubby and me are $300. per lot. I just checked and plan to buy them this year so that "chore" will be done.

I live in Ohio. I had no idea others had to pay so much more.

Believe it or not, my mother paid $100 for all 4 plots.

Sounds like a lot of people are buying the wrong real estate. They will sell it as long as those will buy it. I'm sure in these times that there are a lot of distressed lots available and those who bought extra ones that want to sell them.
