Enjoy your life!

August 24th, 2007 at 01:20 pm

Enjoy your life while it is happening to you.
I got an e mail from my best friend. She and I met in Jr. high school. We were not really friends in high school but became very good friends when she moved back to our home town and have been best friends every since.
I got an e mail that said her husband was in the hospital. He woke up Tuesday morning with a bad headache. He got dressed for work but laid back down on the bed. When she came out of the bathroom, he had passed out and she had to call an ambulance.
Something in his brain has burst and the doctors don't think he will ever recover.

On Wednesday, he received his 2nd social security check in his checking account. It will probably be the last one he will ever get.
I feel so sorry for my best friend, having to go thru all this. Thank goodness, she has a large family and church family to help out in her time of need.(she lives a long way from me)

    aneurysm?

My aunt died of one in her 20s/30s. What a shock. She just keeled over one day. Life can be short. Good post.

As sad as it was it really changed the way my family lived, and we tried to start enjoying more while we were alive. As tragic as these things are, they are good reminders to live while we can.

I learned that lesson when my brother passed away from colon cancer 4 weeks after being diagnosed. Actually,I think the chemo is what did him in. After treatment started he slowly lost his appetite and weight. Then, he was gone.
Now, if I don't want to do something, I don't.
SO's mom comes to town and wants to have dinner out...hmmm,I don't think so. You go dear. Life is just too short for me to have to suffer through any avoidable discomfort.

That's terrible (both Ima's friend and Nic's brother). Very scary, and a very real world reminder to be conscious and grateful for what we have, right here and now.

Nic, i remember your advice for me on B.'s family. There's some truth to it. I just wish i had your courage.

Sorry to hear of your friend's husband. My own step-father had to retire medically at 62. He lived to 66 and no one understood why because he had emphesema and by the doctors words would not live another year and managed to live 5 more. The time gave my Mom time to prepare for his going.

I so agree with you. Life is too short to be angry, hold grudges, and just to not be happy (at least content).

Thank you for sharing and reminding us of what a privilege it is to wake up everyday.

That is very sad indeed, and yes, it shows just important time is.... To manage it wisely. To enjoy what you have. Not to blow it with conspicuous consumption or anything (because a lot of friends would love to say that if they were here), but certainly to live it well without ruining our future.

My sister-in-law died of a brain aneurysm when she was 45 years old. She had a terrible headache, and was putting dinner dishes in the sink, and just collapsed on the floor. She was kept alive for about a week, but was said to be brain dead, so they plug was pulled on her 45th birthday. She was a very frugal person, and stashed every penny she could, away. She was always saying that when her son graduated from high school, they would take a vacation, stay at a Bed and Breakfast Inn, etc. Well, she died when her son was only 15, and never got to enjoy any of those things. Now, the second wife is enjoying all of the money that was saved for "the future".
    Enjoy life, while you can.
