Selling home depot stock

August 10th, 2007 at 07:17 pm

I got a letter from Home Depot offering to buy my stock from me at $39 a share. Since it is selling at $35, I thought it sounded like a good deal. I called them, and they have lowered their offer to $37 a share.
I still think I will sell because I am not happy with that store like I was when I first bought their stock in 1995. My husband goes there almost every day and he says the service is terrible and they are always out of everything.

Very good idea to get rid of it ASAP.

HD reminds me of Wal-Mart when it comes to customer service (which sucks) I think I would sell as well since the housing market is on the down turn

What did you buy your HD at?

I paid different prices, in the $40's, $50's and $60's. However the stock split twice before 2000, so I will still almost double my money in what I bought in the 90's. However I will lose money for what I bought after that.(that was thru Edward Jones Co.)

I feel downright hostile to HD. We live within walking distance though, so I do go there. The first time I drove to the Lowe's about 6 miles away, the difference was striking. I was asked multiple times by good humoured people if they could help. If I needed help finding at item, they will walk all the way to the item with me, and stick with me to see if they can be of further assistance. I assume that Lowes employs a lot more people to be able to give this kind of service. Lowe's employees don't necessarily have any expertise ~if that is what one wants~ but they do help in the unskilled ways that they can, which is important, too. HD give help? Oh you've got to be kidding....

Returns at HD take forever. Special orders for lumber at HD takes forever. Both these are problems of not enough employees, it appears to me. They've got the CS people multi-tasking, tending to phone and in-person customers at the same time.

That said I'm still glad to shop at our old timey neighborhood hardware store. Smile It does a lot of business with contractors, too. So even being within half a mile of HD, it's been able to complete. Well, their employees are spread a little thin, but they really are knowlegeable people, which one doesn't get at HD.

I think HD could revive itself if it at least tripled their employee numbers.

How is their highest management now that they got rid of their very own robber baron?
