Taking a house to fix

July 12th, 2007 at 03:12 pm

My dh has finished up the two houses that he has been building.
His next project is a house that needs lots of fixing. It is a brand new house but it is really a mess. He got the outside fixed up and today he is starting on the inside.
Most of the rock had fallen off the fireplace, so I think that is where he is going to start, re rocking the fireplace with new rock.
It is a shame that a buider can do this type of work and get away with it. I hate the fact that he is working somewhere, right now, for someone, in my little town.

    Wow!

I just roll my eyes whenever anyone says buying a new house is a bad move due to shoddy workmanship because with all the old houses we looked at we were GUARANTEED major repairs. With a new house I figure if it is that bad off, you should have some legal recourse. A new house that needs that much work - I'd be making a big stink for sure.

The worst is we had a plumbing problem and we called a plumber and they wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole because the house "may be" under warranty. I assured them it wasn't under warranty and we would sign a waiver, whatever. The builder pretty much warrants nothing after the first year. The house is 5 years old. But in the end we found a handyman and it turns out one of the kids had turned a knob on the toilet or something. But I imagine it is hard to find someone to do repairs on new houses for this reason as well. The plumber just wouldn't even look at it.

They definitely slap them up fast and the workmanship could be better for sure. That is just terrible.

You lie and manipulated! The rock was torn off because the owner wanted an upgraded kind of rock,.. If you are going to live in your dream world.. I guess this would make it what you want it to be.. You should consider the people who has been to that house before your DH ever went in there and know the truths,... it was an unfinished house that sat!

The owner told us that the rock work had been fixed and it had fallen off again. You better get your husband to start telling the truth. Why was he asked to turn in his keys to the house and never come back? I have pictures of all the mistakes he made including the hole in the kitchen that no one understands, the crooked floors, the botched up trim work and the jack holding up the crooked floor. He also told the owners that it passed inspection in December when in fact, it failed about 20 things, but he went ahead with insulation and drywall. Now dh has to find the leak. What a con man your dh is!!

We did not want the house at all. We took it as a favor to help these people out. They said he did not even use a blueprint to build the house. It was off about 10 feet in size. He obviously never used a level or at least his crew didn't . Then he charged them about double what my husband charges.

Maybe I have you all wrong. Maybe you honestly believe what you are saying about your dh. If so, then sadly, he is conning you too. The owners told him to quit in March and called us in April, so the house did not sit that long. He didn't even use the right kind of nails on the outside and the railings were all falling off. None of the doors will close either.

You are sooo wrong.. we have the balances he charged.. we were under budget.. both times even tho nothing about the first one stayed what was estimated.. we were asked to pick out mid grades.. umm.. not what ended up being..

Even with changes... we have the balances.. and being in business.. of course we had our taxes done.. sounds to me that you wanted the house and went on what made you feel better and better about taking it because nothing not even the level comment is true.. he fired the SUBCONTRACTED CREW THAT WAS HIRED IN TO FRAME WHILE HE WORKED ON THE OTHER ONE.. he FIRED THEM..
The original cost of the first house, was for another house than what they got.. it was for less sqft.. and less work.. of course more changes came.. and he didnt go over budget.. they agreed to saving money by hunny not using the blue prints.. in the beginning, it was a different desire than what ended up being.. and that was ok too because they chose what they wanted.. they knew better than we what they wanted and needed..

You have no clue what had taken place.. and the stall was not about workmenship, I GRANT YOU THAT!!.. until yall were hired in..
Which like I said, is fine too.. I had no idea your snide remarks were meant for me on the other forums until the letter came weeks after the emails you sent out that I have a few copies of and the snide remarks in post.. because as far as I knew.. my husband was going to finish the house..
Yall are much better off with it after I read more of your taunts and exaggerating what you want told for what is not the truths.. either you honestly have no clue, or you are enjoying yourself trying to be on top of the world in a dream that is not reality!.. yall chose it.. yall wanted it, you got it.. good luck! I wish you the best..

I only know what the owners told me. They were not happy with the workmanship on either house. You cannot build a house without blueprints, unless it is a square box!

BTW, dh was called out on two separate sundays to look at two different house with problem walls and floors. He took this one on to fix, the other he turned down for lack of time. I did talk about the other house on the forum many times. So you may have assumed I was talking about this house, but I was not.
