My unfrugal dog!

July 10th, 2007 at 05:58 pm

My little poodle is a very expensive dog to feed. She does not like dog food at all. I have tried every kind of dog food there is. The only thing she will eat is Beneful wet dog food.
I just stopped at the store and bought 2 containers. It was almost $4 for them. ($3.96)
My little Lucy used to eat anything and everything, but not my little Holly.
Oh well, she is worth a million to me, so I will keep buying beneful!!

    Haha, that's funny.

Well, think of the bright side. She is a small dog and doesn't eat much.

I have two dachshunds and they will eat anything, including worms. They like it best when the worm gets all dried out on the pavement. My husband calls it 'worm jerky'. Who knows? Maybe that will be a pet delicacy one day and people will line up to buy 'Worm Jerky'. After it rains they get all excited to go for walks because of this. Sometimes I don't notice right away what they're sniffing at until it's too late.

I think I just shared too much with you. Sorry about that.

    They also love carrots. ;o)

Karen, I used to think it was weird but my last poodle ate worms too. When it rains, we have dozens of them on the driveway!! Worm jerky, that is a good name for it!!

You should be careful. Feeding dogs certain dog foods make them more prone to kidney stones and bladder infections because of the salts in the food. We only feed our dogs dry Eukanuba, used to be on prescription dog food. That's it and they eat it or starve. Works great, set the food out and if they don't want it no big deal.

I hear ya! My cats have food allergies and have to eat a special food that runs $30 for an 8 pound bag!

    It's a good thing they're so cute...

Sheesh, the things we do for our "babies." My megacolon cat gets special cat food which runs $18 a case...and that's the wholesale price. Our pup eats Lil Cesar and cottage cheese, but would probably love to dine on worms too.

Yes, what is it with dogs and these worms! Mine like to RUB themselves on the dried up worms first, EWWW!

You can put dry food out for days, and my dog will not touch it. But she cries so pitifully, I can't stand it.

My bil's vet advised him to use dry food, but to mix a 1/4 of a can of wet dog food. Said that it was also good for the coat.
