When do you turn on your A/C??

May 11th, 2007 at 06:51 pm

I try to be frugal in the winter and I keep the heat on 60 and dress in sweaters.
But, I cannot stand hot weather. That is the main reason I wanted to move from florida. I can't stand heat.
Of course, i want my electric bill as low as possible and it has been great since last October. But now it is getting hot!!
What do you set your temperature on?
Right now, it is 87 outside and I have turned on the a/c for the first time this year.

Here in MO, we turn it on when it hits 90 degrees because it gets so humid. I hate that kind of hot, sticky weather.

As soon as it hits 95d., it's turned on and we set it between 80-85. Today, it may get up to 98d....very early for that kind of heat...usually it heats up like that at the end of June thru July and August.

Never, mostly because we don't have one and we prefer hot weather over cold Stick Out Tongue
We just open all the windows and doors not facing the street if it gets to be 100.

Oh my gosh, I can't stand it over 80 outside. I use to keep it at 70. I am trying 75 today.

I just turned ours on recently too. We set it at about 78 during the day, even higher when it gets really hot out. At night, we turn it down to 74 or so, so that it is more comfortable to sleep in our upstairs bedrooms.

I don't have it on yet, here in Illinois. We have had a week in the upper 70's and 80's, but my house is blessed with very little south side windows. Bad in the winter, good in the summer. Keeping the house closed up in the day keeps it about 72 degrees cool. I open up the windows at night to get a good cooling of the house. We slide into the 50's at night still.

I'll wait for the humidity. Or when it is uncomfortable to sleep with my ceiling fan circulating, on goes the a/c - I don't care about the price. Okay, I do, but a girls got to live.

We don't have AC but I started using the fans in the windows this week.

I turn it to 80 when it gets upwards of 80 inside. Since now it is just random days we have been sticking it out to 85 or so. That's probably our limit. We have been a lot more mindful in years past though of babies, keeping the house cooler longer. The nice thing is it is rare we need it on at night. It cools off most nights, so then we just open the windows.

It usually only gets that hot inside when it hits the 90s outside for more than a couple of days. But we already ran the air for a couple of days - ick - before May even!

It really is too bad, but short of leaving the thermostat high and stripping down, I can't think of any ways I can keep cool and save money.
