What does your life revolve around??

March 2nd, 2007 at 01:27 pm

What does your life revolve around? What is most important in your life? For some, it could be food, drugs, work, children, etc.
Someone on another forum said that my life revolves around money. I would have to disagree.
I learned to respect money at an early age after my father died. We didn't have any income coming in. I learned what it was like to go to school and be hungry all day. Money is important in my life and to many other people, it is too.
But, I would have to say that the most important thing in my life is my husband and our life together.
I think we have a pretty wonderful life!!

As Suze Orman says, "People first, then money, then things!"

At this time in our life it would probably be our children and our family. I spend a great deal of my time with "money issues", only because we don't have a whole lot of it and I need to find resources to help it stretch as far as possible. I wouldn't say that being consciece of money and how's it's spent as "revolving around money" though. I think if more people took time to be aware of thier financail situations and limitations there would be a let less people is the severe debt that seems to be crippling this country right now.

I find this an interesting thing because I love accounting and playing with Quicken and our money, etc. BUT my life does not revolve around money. I have found since joining the forums it does a bit more. But I have always been in this interesting dichotomy where I like counting and organizing money, BUT I find far more to life than money - a value it a lot less than most overall, but do look at it as a way to security and comfort, and for that reason I just want to be best prepared I can.

The impression many others take is I am money-obsessed, which I find ironic because I place much less value on things and money than most people I know. For example, I have lived on much less to be there for my kids, accept buying used things over status, etc. I value working less and making less over going for a top paycheck.

Today my life revolves around my family and yes my work to support them. I really do try to revolve my life around helping others, but has been much harder with small children who need me more than anyone else in the meantime. Wink

Right now my painful back! Everything I do is measured on how it is going to help or hurt it.

Normally my life revolves around my husband and three daughters AND money!

I agree monkeymama. i place very little value on things. While other talk about the "things" they buy, I am very happy with the things I have already. I have no desire for a large screen tv, my (at least) 24 year old tv still plays just fine.

I'll say it: My life centers around money. But that's because most things in life centers around money to begin with, whether we realize it or not.

But that doesn't mean there aren't things out there that are more important than money. My kids are one such example.

Saying that you are financially responsible and aware doesn't mean money is more important than the people you care about.

Right now my life centers around my husband and 5 kids (3 more than the other 2 because they're off at college), my job, and my health.

Right now my life centers around my friends but my focus a lot of the time is on Money. Only because I want to get out of debt and I have plans that are on hold until that day comes.

    Money is a tool.
My life centers around what I can do to make the tools we have work FOR us. More work hours? Tweak the investments? Cut back here? Save over there.
This in turn gives us the comforts we have. My SO is extremely supportive of my efforts since it's made our lives a lot easier, less stress, more time w/our animals etc.
It doesn't mean it's more important than family, but you have to take care of your tools.

My life revolves around my weekends! With B!

And if he weren't here, hmm, well my primary focus would be to stay on track with the goals i've set and look to unload myself of my house, and all its costs, in the next 3 years at the outset.
