Glass half empty

March 1st, 2007 at 03:08 pm

My husband is the type that sees the glass half empty. I am opposite, I see the glass half full.
I told him last night that we had lost some money when the stock market fell the other day.
But the way I told him was that we had made $30,000 in our mutual funds the past 5 months and only lost $10,000 of it. So we are still $20,000 ahead.
He keeps talking about the $10,000 that is gone instead of the extra money it made.
He is in his mid 50's, so I guess there is no changing him. I wish he did not view things so negatively.
I don't think I will even tell him what is going on with the market today! Don't you either!!

Hehe. My friends would probably describe me as a "glass half empty" kind of guy, but I prefer to pragmatic perspective of simply "half filled". Big Grin

Yeah, the stock market sure is diving hard and fast, and even I am seeing the effects of it in my 401k. Frown

He probably sees that he works so hard for what he does have. He surely doesn't want a loss to take the rest. That would hurt. I worked with a man who played in stocks. He lost it all! And it was at a time like this. He suffered not only financially but physically. He had a heart attack from the stress that the money brought in his life and the lack of brought later. He is a frugal person but at the same time. His worries of today are no longer of loss. It's of the life he is living and almost lost.
