Wasting money

February 11th, 2007 at 02:38 pm

My husband was talking to me last night about the young fellow that does his house framing. He is about 27 and makes very good money, but he does not have a pot, if you know what I mean.
Dh says he just hates to give him this big paycheck every week, knowing the money will just be wasted. He does buy tools once in a while, but he never takes care of them, just throwing them in the back of his pickup.
Last week, he spent $800 for a camera. He has no savings, no EF, no ira, nothing. Just rents a place and makes payments on his pickup.

It is annoying to see all the young people that make the same or more than us, but all they do is waste their money.
People on my other forum make fun of us because we have money. What I can't get thru their thick skulls, is that we have money because WE SAVE IT!!!

I think it is that sense of "entitlement" that a lot of people have. It is that instant gratification, thing. I want what I want, when I WANT it!

    Agreed.

My hubby was just saying too that he notices a lot people don't treat their stuff well. I asked him were we really that good at shopping because seems like everyone I know has stuff falling apart/fixed/replaced constantly. I Was starting to wonder if we were just that lucky. Dh was telling me he has seen friends toss their laptops and electronic equipment around almost like our 3-year-old does. LOL. People these days just have no respect for their things - like everything is disposable - it is amazing. As for us we work hard for our money and don't want to spend it all replacing things carelessly. Seems like a simple concept, but reminded me when you mentioned how he treated his tools...

My husband takes very good care of his tools. Some of them are 20 years old.

You are so right- people that save money have money- I look back at all the stupid stuff that I bought when younger- I wish I had saved the money.

On the bright side, the good thing is that this man is relatively young. True, by his age he should begin to be knowing better, but unfortunately people don't seem to be 'growing up' until their thirties these days. Hopefully he doesn't have too many debts, so when he finally does settle down and begin saving, he won't be in such a bad scenario that it will take years and years to pull out of.
