Adding small amounts

December 5th, 2006 at 09:07 pm

Don't be afraid to add small amounts to your savings account. I enjoyed saving money when I was quite young, but I was always embarassed about just depositing a few dollars at a time. (That was when you could go to the movies and have two boxes of candy for a quarter)
For several years I worked as a bookkeeper/teller at a very small savings and loan.
We were alway thrilled when children came in to add to their savings.
The same with adults.
If you put it away right away, you will not be tempted to spend the money, or have it just slide thru your fingers.
So make those small deposits and make them often!

Amen! I know I thought it was silly at first to have an ING autotransfer set up for just $10/paycheck but since I didn't have constant access to that account it really added up fast!

Thank you for the nudge. I am not good with doing this and need to make it a goal for 2007

Right now, I'm focusing on my student loans though, so any additional money is thrown in there. Still, I agree that every little bit counts!

Since I opened the account yesterday thanks to yours and Rduels comments, it will be interesting to see how it adds up. I will also enjoy the transfers as well. Do they have a certain amount that you have to transfer. I need to get to their rules.

No, I don't think they have any minimum to transfer. The poster above says that she has $10 transfered out of every paycheck.
