radio shack

November 4th, 2006 at 09:03 pm

I got a new cell phone at radio shack yesterday. Had a great gal trying to explain everything to me, cause most of what I need to know, is not in the booklet.
Went back to ask more questions today, but I got a tall guy. He was super nice, but I am short and even standing on my toes,I could not see what he was doing.
Turns out, I have no service here at home, that is why I couldn't do anything.
Well, I got a few things from the grocery store, used my advantage card and saved $2 more to add to my challenge.
Prev. total $18,051.00
today 2.00
new total $18,053.00 p.s. the new cell phone is for dh. I said I would never have one and I won't . I hate talking on phones, so I am sure not going to carry one around with me.

well, at least you know it was the phone having issues and not you! is it going to be a problem if DH's cell phone won't work at the house?

Ima when they go to explaining all that stuff to me my eyes just glaze over after so long. Slow down, not so much information...push buttons slower...please!!

These folks who know how all the gizmos work do a lot of that stuff from 'muscle memory' and can't even explain to you how they get it to do all those bells and whistles thingywhos!

MUST I.N.S.I.S.T. you Slooooooooooooooooow WAY downnnnnnnnnn...tall guy!! ...and bend the heck down so the rest of us can see what you're doing!!

Isn't it a problem if you don't have service, I'm assuming signal?, for your cell phone at home?

We had service at home on our old cell phone. You can make calls if you go outside. DH never uses it at home, so that won't matter, but I thought I had done something wrong. I guess I will have to sign up for a "cell phone" class somewhere!

Ima, it may be that you have only "analog" service available at your home, and your new cellphone is capable of receiving digital signals only. The downside of progress, I guess! perhaps you could take the new cellphone back and demand one that is compatible w/ analog service.

What did people do before cell phone? My phone takes pictures, send text messages, and makes announcemets. There are more bells and whistles than a body should have to deal with! I hate having to answer calls all day long but I have to do so! Life was a bit more peaceful when folks had to reach you on a land line!

Since I have the phone all I want to do is turn it on and use the darn thing. Now I have to dial a number every month to update the software and remember to charge the darn thing all the time!

Anyone notice how pay phones are slowly disappearing! Gosh, I remember portable phones were the size and weight of a brick! Times sure have changed! Good luck with it Julie!Smile

I think Squantum nailed it. A while back, I had to have one of those phones as well (digital that was backward compatible with analog) in order to maintain my coverage. Since then, I heard that the towers have been upgraded where I could go all-digital, but that was a couple of years back.

Yes, it's true that phone providers will sell you the latelys cellphone gizmo. If you honestly know that you don't need all those "features", you can insist on a lower one and save a lot of money. There are plenty of "free" basic ones, but they will require a two-year commitment.
