TGIF

October 1st, 2006 at 07:00 pm

I forgot to mention, that I heard back from TGIFridays in Gatlinburg. I was complaining about the 20% tax we paid that night at their restaurant and the much lower tax we paid at a different restaurant.
It seems that TGIFridays has a huge tax on liquor (we had a bottle of wine) and the other restaurant does not.
I did not, of course, get a refund. but, she did send me a gift card good for one free appetizer, so it was well worth my 39 cents to write.
Now if we just had a TGIfriday's around!

I'm curious how can two restaurants in the same location (town county state) have different taxing structures. Differing surcharges maybe but taxes? Don't taxes require governemnt authority whcih wouldn't be different for two restaurants in the same location.

I question the same thing myself. The answer I was given is that the other restaurant is not a "chain" and absorbs the tax cost of the liquor and TGIfriday does not do that!
