Prices have gone up

September 2nd, 2006 at 02:05 pm

We went out to eat last night. One of my husband's favorite meals is prime rib. They have new menus and I noticed the prices have gone up. Prime rib went from $15 to $17, pretty expensive in our area. Good thing my meal is usually only $7. I noticed the prices have gone up, but waitresses still make only $2 something an hour. I think that is awful. I started waitressing in 1985 and i was earning $2.01. Now, 20 years later, they make about 12 cents more an hour. That is terrible!!

Prime rib. That makes two of us. Yum, yum.

By comparison, in Australia the Federal minimum wage (which all States must abide by) is set at $12.65 per hour. And people here complain at that. As an example, if I were to get a job at my local Aldi as a "checkout-chick" I would earn $16.xx an hour.

I noticed that the U.S Federal minimum wage is $5.15 but some states set their own minimum. I could not imagine trying to live on $2.xx an hour, let alone seeing my hard work worth so little. Frown

Shadon: Some states have their own minimum and some states have something like a server wage which can be less than the minimum. I think in Oregon they can't do that so they get minimum wage $7 something, plus tips.
