Wow!!

September 1st, 2006 at 02:52 pm

My husband was reccommended to a guy that is looking for a builder. Lake lots go for a half mil and up around here, so we knew it would be a nice house.
My dh just went and picked up the plans. He doesn't know the amount of square feet yet, but says that the house plan looks like a resort. He said it will take years to build that house!
I would love for him to take it, but he has no crew and the locals just won't work more than 20 hours a week.
It would be really good money I am sure, but he is just one guy!!!

This sounds like it would be quite a jewel in a builder's crown!

My BIL works construction, and most of the people who work for him won't work 40 hour weeks (or anything close to it) either. I always wondered if it was because they made so much money that they just didn't feel the need to work longer. The 'gophers' on the jobs make $20/hr!!! If I were them -- young, strong, healthy -- I'd be working my butt off just to save all that extra money.

I hope your husband finds a way to do this if he wants to.

    Ima!

I know what you mean! I work construction too and some of the huge houses I see just boggle my mind. Really, what is someone going to do with a 25,000 SF house!! I've seen them with indoor and outdoor pools, bowling lanes, tennis courts, basketball couts, racketball courts, all inside. I must say that most of our workers really do work hard, so that's not a problem for us at the moment. Finding enough workers to keep up is what's hard. That and trying to keep the skyrocketing labor and material prices under control.

I hope that if your husband is able to do this job that he can find the help he needs. I know more than a few people with the 20 hour a week mentality!

We got the house plans and he measured it all out. It is over 18,000 square feet and that is not counting porches, decks, garage, etc. So I would say the house is close to 20,000 square feet!
