Electric bill

July 18th, 2006 at 04:29 pm

I have been reading my meter every day, trying to keep my kilowatt consumption under 50 every day, which I need to keep in line with my $160 a month budget. The past two days, I have gone over 50, actually the day before the reading was 64, the worst it has been this month. I forgot and left the hot water on. Plus it is just plain darn HOT HOT HOT!!!

According to the broadcast news and Yahoo weather forecast, it's going to be 100 degrees alone temp wise, add in the humidity and heat index, I'm predicting a temp of about 106. Our a/c has been on for the last 3 days;there was just no way(even with 8 fans and our poly stock tank full of cool water) that we could keep going without a/c. Everyone was coming apart at the seams and the cats were wilting.

Can you do an equal pay thing with your electric company? Once I lived in my apt for a year, I could do that. It's wonderful because I pay the same amount every month. I was curious when the year came around what the damage would be (it gets adjusted every year based on the prior year's actual usage) because we had a super cold winter and used the heater a lot more. But it stayed the same! Anyway...

Well, I budget $160 for it every month and only went over budget once. I like saving what is left over in my challenge account. Even when i did not have a challenge account, I added the money to my savings or my winter heat envelope!

It is absolutely hot, we try very hard to limit our electrical consumption but with two young children we have no choice right now. We have to have the A/C going.
