New dollar store

September 15th, 2014 at 05:30 pm

A new dollar store just opened up the road from me, yesterday. I don't do much shopping at dollar stores, except for cards and envelopes.
This one carries a lot of groceries and I checked the prices. They are much cheaper on most items. I will definately shop there more often, plus they are 6 miles closer than the dollar store by Ingles. The Ingles one is Family dollar and the one is Dollar General. Hubby and I went there last night and spent $16 on things we have been needing.

I went to Ingles today and saved $5 using my advantage card, so I will add that to the $20 challenge.

THI dividend

September 5th, 2014 at 09:46 pm

In checking my Edward Jones account today, I discovered that I had received a dividend. Even tho I sold my Tim Horton Stock last week, I guess I was still the owner of record, when they declared a dividend.

I recently completed the paper work to be able to transfer money from my Edward Jones account to my local account, so I then transferred over the $42 dividend.

I will add that to my $20 challenge.

Prev. total $13,466.00

s/s day

August 28th, 2014 at 03:52 pm

Prev. total $12,629.00
today 524.00
new total $13,153.00

I have decided not to add my sale of stock to the $20 challenge. It just doesn't seem fair. But I did make $13,700 on the stock, free and clear. The Wendy's Corp. GAVE me the stock, 172 shares about 10 years ago when they merged with Tim Horton.

Good bye Tim

August 26th, 2014 at 09:18 pm

My Tim Horton stock has gone wild. Burger King wants to buy it, so the stock went up about $6 a share.
I sold it thru my Edward Jones broker this morning.

I had never heard of the stock until about 8 years ago. I invested a little bit in Wendy's stock in 1994 because it was my favorite hamburger place. I invested $50 whenever I had the money thru a drop plan.

Back in 2006, they acquird Tim Horton and gave me 172 shares of that stock.
It just sold today for $13,700. Stock that I got for "nothing"!!

I don't know if I should add that to my $20 challenge or not. Anyway, I am very happy with it!!

a lucky penny

August 9th, 2014 at 08:12 pm

I found a lucky penny yesterday. Maybe, that is why the braves ended their 8 game losing streak! That is the longest I have seen in years. But now they are playing 1st place teams for the next 7 games.
They got 4 homes runs last night. I am adding $5 to the $20 challenge plus $1 for each home run.

Need advice??

July 25th, 2014 at 01:29 pm

I received $275 in dividends from a certificate of deposit that I hold in a local back. I will add it to my $20 challenge.

My question is: I received a letter this week from this bank, telling me that they are closing my branch. I have a jumbo C.D. which I cannot cash out without penalty until Jan. 2015. Right now, I will lose $550 in interest (penalty) if I cash out.

My problem is, they will be moving my account to another state, probably Alabama, I perfer to do my banking in person, not by mail. Online is really difficult for me.

Should I just take the penalty and cash out, so my funds will not be moved out of state (where, I do not know) or should I stay put. I have talked to the bank people in person, but got no help.
What would you do?

July 19th, 2014 at 05:38 pm

allstar game

July 14th, 2014 at 08:14 pm

The allstar game is this week, so I won't be adding any money to the challenge for braves wins. They did win yesterday at Wrigley Field. What an interesting history that ball field has. It is 100 years old this year.

Materials discount

July 8th, 2014 at 06:42 pm

Great party

July 6th, 2014 at 07:04 pm

We went to a great party last night. They had live music and we even got up and danced.

Dh wanted to be especially careful abut driving last night cause he highway patrol was out in full force.
He was very careful to take his own beer to the party. It was a non alcoholic beer, so he stashed it (hid) in the refrigerator.
He felt very safe driving home until he realized that he forgot his drivers license and wallet at home.
(red cars get stopped more than any other color, did you know that?)

:ucky for us, we made it home without getting stopped. The braves won last night, their 9th in a row.

Prev. total $9726.00
today 5.00
new total $9731.00
