My mother

May 10th, 2008 at 04:15 pm

Tomorrow is mother's day but dh and i do not celebrate because both of our mother's have passed away.
I was thinking about my mother this morning. My father died before I turned 10, so she was a widow at age 47.
She had never worked (women didn't work much back then), so she had to take a job making about $20 a week to support the three of us.
Until I married at age 20, I never saw my mother buy herself anything. She made sure she paid the bills first, bought food and that was that!
I guess that is why i find it pretty easy to be frugal, I learned by example.

Have a happy mother's day tomorrow.

It's great that you have the example of your frugal mother to live by. If she were alive, she would be very proud of what you have accomplished for yourself, as well as inspiring others to do the same. May you have a Happy Mother's Day!

My mom passed away also. I just usually go visit her grave. I do miss her beyond words. She was a very frugal parent also. Happy Mothers Day Julie.

I agree with the rest that your Mom would have been very proud of you. I'm sure it was seeing your Mom struggle that set you up to make sure you didn't have the same situation that she did. Happy Mother's day to you.

You had a great mom. My mom used to say she wasn't hungry, and I knew she wasn't eating because there wasn't enough- so I would say I wasn't hungry alot- she would also walk in the snow to get us stuff- she has that real mountain gumption. We never had breakfast but on weekends, except occasionally- but we never starved either- so now that I am a celebrity wuthor, some of the richer folks have a hard time because I worked hard and made it ( with God's help) so I think that is why I get flamed so much too.

I guess another reason that you do not celebrate mother's day is because you no longer speak to your daughter, so you can't celebrate something that you do not have. Try being a daughter that cannot celebrate it because her mother is alive but cannot forgive her for childish, stupid things that she did years ago, and her mother holds a grudge.
