Withdrew $1000

May 31st, 2006 at 08:03 pm

I withdrew $1000 from the vacation account today. I know we won't spend that amount, but I will need it for next week's budget, to make up for 4 days of lost pay.
That is the bad thing about being self employed, you never get a paid vacation or a paid day off.
Wish saving $1000 was as easy as withdrawing $1000!!!

Packing

May 31st, 2006 at 04:51 pm

I am packing for a trip to Florida. Trying to find something cool enough to wear, so I am taking way too many clothes. Did you ever notice that almost everything, "dress up" is long sleeves. I wish I could just wear shorts.

oops!!

May 30th, 2006 at 09:52 pm

Forgot to add my new totals:
prev total $5512.00
today 20.00
new total $5532.00

not bad!!

Saved some money

May 30th, 2006 at 09:51 pm

Our restaurant was not open last night, so we ran to the store to find something to grill. We spent $6, so I feel like we saved at least $10 for the challenge. Then today, I used coupons and saved $4 at Ingles. I have 2 coupons for free dog food from the pet store.
That food was $10 each for a 5 pound bag. I am not going to count $20 saved for dog food because I do not buy expensive food for my outside dog. I figured that I have saved at least $6 in what I would spend for dog food, for a grand total of $20!! I also have a coupon for a free expensive bag of cat food. I will go get that someday and guess I can donate it to someone. Too bad I don't have any frugal friends!

Busy busy day!!

May 30th, 2006 at 09:27 pm

This is the first time I have had time to come to this site, my favorite place to visit. I had a bunch of errands to run today to get ready for our trip. Then I had to take the car in for an oil change and tire alignment. That took up about 3 hours, as I had to go to another state. Looking forward to dinner out tonight!! And catching up on all these blogs!!

found wallet

May 29th, 2006 at 08:54 pm

I was cleaning out a drawer today and found an old wallet. I wish I could say it was full of money, but I take better care of money than that. I always know how much money I have.
This wallet did have a change purse and it was full of nickels. We use to play a game that used nickels, so I had stored them up.
At least some change got added to my change jar today.
I picked up my dog from the groomer and noticed our restaurant was not open today. I bet we will have to do something else for supper!! That should save us some money!!

I blew it today!

May 29th, 2006 at 05:28 pm

I blew it today and it is all the bank's fault! If they were not closed, I would have cashed today's pay check and paid cash for my purchases.
Instead I put almost $25 worth of stuff on my credit card.
Why is make up so expensive. I need eye liner and the type I like, is $8. Eight dollars, that is terrible. Then I spent $8 more for two eye shadows. I have tried some of the real cheap ones, and they are terrible.
Plus I bought some sugar free candy and other misc.
Ok, I will go and stand in the corner now!! I should just quit wearing make up. Now I know why older women usually don't wear eye liner and eye shadow, we can't see how to put it on!!

Ah, steak tonight!!

May 28th, 2006 at 09:07 pm

Sunday night is our stay home, cook at home night. We have not had steak in about 2 months, so i thought I would splurge. It is a holiday although my husband generally works 7 days a week.
The steak was on sale with my bi lo card, so I saved $3. I also got in my 30 minutes of walking, so I have a total of $4 to add to my challenge money.
Prev. total $5508.00
today 4.00
new total $5512.00

Party time

May 28th, 2006 at 03:59 pm

We had a great time at the party last night. lots and lots of food, we pigged out. Even had dessert. I was dressed as Elvis and a male elvis did win the best dressed prize.
They had about 30 couples enter the dance contest. My dh wouldn't enter, so I danced with a stranger, but we took 2nd prize. I won a 30 minute massage. Not sure what to do with that, I am not the "massage" type.!!

50's party

May 27th, 2006 at 07:59 pm

I am going to a 50's party tonight. Knowing all the ladies will be so cute in their poodle skirts, I decided to do something different.
You know when you get older, you really don't care what people think of your looks, so I always like to be funny at parties.
I am going as Elvis. The fatter version of Elvis in a white jumpsuit.
I have a terrible Elvis wig that would make elvis cry. (He did have great hair, so did my husband when we got married, but it is gone now!)
I hope when I leave the party someone will say, "Elvis has left the building"!!

Toilet paper countdown

May 27th, 2006 at 06:41 pm

Ok, May 25th was my official toilet paper countdown day. The first part of the year, I had lots of coupon to buy toilet paper with. I wound up buying 17 4double roll packages. So I have 68 rollds of toilet paper that cost me about $20 for all of them.
I just want to see how long i can go without buying toilet paper.
I bought a large bag of garbage bags and have been using them since Feb. 22nd!
I have stockpiled sprite and have enough for several months.
So, with my diet sprite and my toilet paper purchases, I sit here very happy!!

saved $10

May 27th, 2006 at 05:42 pm

Just got back from the grocery store. I stocked up on sprite which is still on sale. I now have 12-12/can cases, but we drink it a lot. I also got another free case of disani water for buying coke products. I found a coupon for a savings on pickles, which were on sale already. With my advantage card, I saved about $10 which I will add to my challenge money. I am not counting the $5 I would have paid for the water because I never buy bottled water. I distill my own.
prev. total $5498.00

new total $5508.00

The class reunion

May 26th, 2006 at 10:55 pm

Yes, we are definately going to dh class reunion next week. Does it ever make you feel upset about skimping on all the little things. Then something unexpected, like this reunion, comes along, and you have to blow a lot of money.
Oh the reunion won't cost that much, but we have to take off four days from work and travel to Florida.
I do go to my reunion, but I also get about 6 months notice. I already know it will be held in October 2007.
I guess it wouldn't be so bad, but we just went to Florida for 4 days to visit in February. Just griping, thanks for listening!!

Change the windows!

May 26th, 2006 at 10:51 pm

Well, I visited the job site today and just did not like the living room windows. They don't match. In the last spec house, I made dh change the living room windows. Sorry, but he is going to have to do it again.
We have a garage full of windows and french doors! I guess we will have to sell them at $10 a piece.
So, I definately blew some money today, but the house has got to look good for the price we have to ask.
Yes, he is still speaking to me!!

cleanest car in town

May 26th, 2006 at 10:49 pm

I think I have the cleanest car in town, my husband washes it so much. He is washing it now. It has rained 4 times this afternoon, I bet it gets rained on tonight. It always rains when you wash a car.

Electric bill

May 26th, 2006 at 06:24 pm

I paid all of my end of the month bills today. The electric bill is one I am never sure of as opposed to garbage, water, cable, etc. being a set sum every month. So I budget $160 a month to pay the electric bill. This month is was $80 so I have $80 left over which will go to my challenge money.
Prev. total $5418.00

new total $5498.00

$7 to add

May 26th, 2006 at 04:20 pm

Well, I saved $6 with my advantage card yesterday, stocking up on diet sprite while it is on sale. I also walked 30 minutes, so I have $7 to add to my challenge money.

$1500 tires!

May 26th, 2006 at 03:27 pm

I got my new $1500 tires today. I guess I should get a chair and go sit in the garage and look at them. Isn't that about what those fancy big screen tv's cost?
My husband loves them. Obviously, it is a man thing!!

Everything was on sale

May 25th, 2006 at 08:57 pm

I have never gone to the grocery store before and gotten everything on sale. I only needed the low carb Hood choc. drink and some sour cream, but I am also stocking up on 4/12 packs of diet sprite for $10, while it was on sale.
Well, the sprite was on sale and so was my low carb drink and sour cream.
On top of that, they gave me a case of disani bottled water for free. That is worth about $5. I am glad the checker knew me (it was self check), I had no idea the water was free. I make my own, but hey, my machine can take a rest. Good deals today!!

Class reunion

May 25th, 2006 at 07:29 pm

My husband just found out about a class reunion about a week ago. Not too organized, they didn't even send our invitations, just called a few people. He graduated in 1969. Why are they having a reunion in 2006? No one seems to know anything, but I guess we are going. It is the first reunion since 1979. I think we are going to be wasting 4 days pay plus expenses going to Fla., but he wants to go. Oh well!! Hope it is not too hot as I cannot stand the heat! That is why we went to visit his Father in Jan. and still wore shorts.

I am in shock!!

May 25th, 2006 at 03:24 pm

My husband is a builder. Until a few years ago, he only built custom homes. He does all the inside work by himself, the painting, the trim, builds all the cabinets and built ins, rocks the fireplace, lays the tile, does the hardwood flooring, marble, countertops, plumbing, electrical, etc.
He does it all and perfectly!
He build a nice house in 2000 and it costs about $400,000 to build it. ( He made about $35,000 for the year he spent building it, working 7 days a week, even thanksgiving day)
The lot was $60,000, so they had a total of $460,000.
It has just gone on the market for 1.35 million dollars! Wow!!

checked mail

May 24th, 2006 at 09:17 pm

I just check my mail, nothing good today. I was hoping my new credit card would come. I have to get new tires, they are on order. Guess I will charge them for a month to get the 1% rebate!

Applied for a new credit card

May 24th, 2006 at 07:00 pm

I applied for a new GM credit card that will give me back 1% of everything we spend on it.
We already have an american express that does the very same thing, but you get the credit for it, only once a year. If you should mess up and pay late even one time, you lose the entire amount.
Now, I always pay on time, but I can't control the mail, so this kind of worries me. Right now, we have over $500 coming back off this card around August.
This GM card will pay you by check anytime you go over $100 and request a check. I like that better.
My husband charges a lot of building materials at home depot and that is what we used the American Express for. Now, we can switch over to the new GM card and get money back more often. I will add this to my challenge money when I start receiving it.

Her first squirrel

May 24th, 2006 at 06:10 pm

My Holly almost caught her first squirrel. I let her out to go potty, not knowing there was a squirrel on the deck. It ran up a post, while she stood on her hind legs to look at it.
It finally lept off into the grass and headed toward the creek.
So did Holly!! She disapppeared down the bank towards the creek and scared me to death!!
Holly is a 5 pound little poodle, not much bigger than the squirrel. I don't know what she would have done with the squirrel if she had caught it. I suppose get bitten pretty bad.
Fortunately, my other dog showed up, and Holly went over to brag to her, and I scooped her up. From now on, she wears a leash.

No spend day

May 24th, 2006 at 05:49 pm

I had a no spend day too. I don't usually have any of those because we eat out every night but Sunday!!
Last night we had to go to a meeting about licensing for builders. The state of Georgia is requiring that, and there is a lot of paperwork to do.It was a good meeting last night, and before it started, they gave us a free meal. It was just sandwiches and brownies, but hey, it was free and pretty good. I don't like to eat that early, but I managed to eat most of a sandwich and had no trouble breaking my diet for the brownie. I got to walk 30 minutes yesterday, so I will add $1 for that and $20 for not eating out to my challenge money!
prev total $5390.00
today 21.00
new total $5411.00

No spend day

May 23rd, 2006 at 08:54 pm

This has been a no spend day today. I only had to go to town to make my payment on a piece of property that we have a mortgage on. I make my payment every 28 days and I have gotten the interest down quite a bit from when I started.
I borrowed almost $65,000 to buy this beautiful mountain view property. This was in Jan., 2005. Today's payment brought my total owed to just under $30,000. I am so happy, I have paid off over $30,000 in 16 months.
We have to attend a builder's meeting at 5:30, so there will be no supper out for us tonight. Guess we will really be saving money. I had better go get a snack, don't want my tummy growling tonight!

Good mail day

May 23rd, 2006 at 03:00 pm

I had a good mail day yesterday. I got a new $1 bill with a survey. I also got my electric bill and it was only $80. That is about the lowest it has been all year and they raised the price per kilowatt hour last month.
I did walk for 30 minutes, so I can add that plus my mail $1 for a total of $2 to my challenge money.
prev. total $5388.00
today 2.00

May 22nd, 2006 at 08:47 pm

#1 Husband

May 22nd, 2006 at 05:34 pm

I have the greatest husband. We have had several medical bills this past month, so dh decided to work 7 days this week to make extra money.
He came home at 5:30 last night, cut the yard (2 acres) and did the weedeating.
After that, he cooked dinner out on the grill and then cleaned up the kitchen.
tonight, he said he would be home early to clean house!! Gotta love that!!

trash bags

May 21st, 2006 at 09:45 pm

For someone who eats out a lot, I seem to have a lot of trash. The garbage service will only pick up your garbages if it is in trash bags.
I usually bought a small box of trash bags about every two weeks, 10 for $1.89.
I decided to see how much money i could save if I bought the big box for about $5.99. I bought that box and wrote when I started using the first bag, on Feb. 22nd. That is three months ago and I have a few bags left.
So instead of spending almost $4 a month on garbage bags, I am now spending $2 a month, a savings of one half.!!
