$4.50 eggs??

February 17th, 2008 at 07:29 pm

I went grocery shopping this morning. I like going on sunday mornings when the stores are so quiet. My dh and I eat an egg for breakfast every morning, so I need to buy a dozen every week. I saw a dozen fancy brown eggs for sale for $4.50. I could not believe my eyes.
No, they did not come home with me.

Yesterday, I had a no spend, no gas use day plus I walked over a mile. I saved $2 today by using my advantage card. That is $5 more to add to the challenge.
prev. total $2049.00
today 5.00
new total $2054.00

I heard from my neighbor that her daughter that lives in North Carolina pays seven dollars for a gallon of milk and some other ungodly amount for a pound of hamburger.

Glad I don't use much milk. I live only 10 miles from the N.C. border!

I've been buying eggs at Wal Mart for $1.96 a dozen for large white eggs. I just can't believe how eggs have increased.

I bought a dozen large eggs (white) yesterday at Wal-Mart. The price was $1.86 which is ridiculously high but a lot better than $4.50!

Kroger has eggs on sale this week for a dollar a dozen, but limit one dozen. I would stock up if I could.

We just paid $1.33, but that is compared to about $2.50 for the usual price around here.

I paid six for a dozen, but they were from a local organic farm where the hens were free-range.

Just checked my receipts, and my last egg purchase was $1.47 for a dozen Eggland's Best (large), thanks to a 50-cents off coupon.

$4.50 per dozen = 37.5 cents for ONE egg! Yowza!

I don't know where the lady from NC is shopping but I manage a grocery store and milk runs from 3.69 to 4.39 per gallon. Plain brown eggs are around 2.49. White eggs are 1.99. All of it seems really high to me too, but it's supposed to be because of the drought this past summer that the farmers are having to pay higher prices for feed and hay and thus the prices of meat and dairy products are rising.

As someone who is sooooooooooooooo bad about the metric system, correct me if I am wrong, but aren't 2 litres about the equivalent of a half gallon?

BTW, I bought a gallon of milk this morning at CVS for $2.99. (which to me is highway robbery)

I believe one liter is equal to 3.8 gallons. I could be reading this guide wrong, though....
