My plan this afternoon, is to sit down and make a list of all of our financial assets, bank accounts, checking, money markets, cd's, etc., complete with account numbers.
My best friend's husband had an aneurysm in his brain on Tuesday morning and he has not moved sinced then. The odds are he is almost brain dead.
I see how fast life can change. My dh has no interest in finances at all and lets me handle everything.
I want to make up a list and go over everything with him, just in case. I think this is a smart plan for all of us.
I am going to make up a financial list today

I'm also the financial one in the family and it gets a little scary sometimes. To be honest, a bit overwhelming at times. When a partner will not do these things, someone has to.

Just hit this link, and then click where it says "Letter of Instructions - Click Here to Download"

I know you already wrote everything down in a notebook, but if you look it over you may see things you missed. [For example, if you have a bank safety deposit box, does your husband know where you keep the key? Does he know about contacting Social Security about benefits? Etc, etc. All of that and much more is covered in the letter of instructions.]
I cannot tell you how much peace of mind I got after I had filled out this letter, showed my husband where it is, and sent a copy to my sister. My husband likes to be involved in our finances on a big scale, and he does know where most of our accounts are, but he leaves all of the daily handling to me and I did worry that he wouldn't know what to do if I died or was incapacitated.
