another beautiful day

March 13th, 2007 at 03:02 pm

Today is another beautiful spring like day. I am just getting ready to take a ride over to the next state. I generally make a liquor run on Tuesdays. My husband will be coming home early today because he has a dentist appointment, one county over. While he is there, he will stock up on beer.
The area I live is so funny, we have to drive to North Carolina to buy liquor, but you can't buy beer there. So, he has to drive to a different county to buy beer!!

Isn't it funny how the laws are different depending on where you live ... The first time I went to a grocery store in CA my eyes about popped out of my head because you can buy hard liquor at the grocery store! Here in WA you can buy beer & wine at the grocery, but have to go to a state-run liquor store for the hard stuff.

We found the same thing in Tennessee when we were staying in Pigeon Forge and going to Gaitlinburg. You could buy beer in Pigeon Forge but no wine. Don't quite get that. How far in miles do you have to go?

in SC the 'blue laws' are nuts, too.... you may or may not be able to buy a drink in a restaurant on sunday, you may or may not be able to buy beer and wine on sunday: both depend on which county you're in, what their sales tax income is, and sometimes whether or not you're in city limits... gah! no liquor sales on sunday though, and none after 7p...

Here in SW Utah, it's just as crazy. The grocery stores sell beer, but no wine or hard liquor. You have to go to the state run store for it...or, go to Mesquite, Nevada and buy to your hearts content.

I can buy liquor wherever I want, too bad I don't drink much - LOL.

I was trying to remember what state I heard really laws about - oh yeah - Utah. A beautiful state though. Just a little weird - hehe.

The odd thing is they are REALLY strict on carding here, as a result I guess. I will never forget visiting my friend in Tennessee at 18 and you could buy liqour without a 2nd glance - hehe. Underage drinking is a hell of a lot harder to pull off in California.
