I received a letter from Vanguard yesterday advising me that they had blocked online access to my vanguard accounts. They gave me a number to call.
I immediately called and was told that an advisor would call me back. They never called.
I called 3 more times and was given the same answer.
Finally, I asked for a supervisor who told me that I would be called back by "an interior department" but not until Monday or later.
I tried to just check my balance by telephone. And assistant came on and repeated that I would be called back by an advisor. I tired to check my balance on line, my password is invalid. This is a large sum of money, needless to say, I am worried. This is my IRA account and I have not made any transactions in a long time.
I do not understand why they can not tell me my balance or even if my money is still there. I am very upset, but don't know what to do???
Any advice?
What is up with Vanguard?

They may have temporarily locked your account for security reasons if they are worried because of failed log in attempts (with the wrong password). If you had tried to log in and mis-entered your password a couple times, then it's not a big deal and just thank Vanguard for watching out for you. But if it wasn't you who mis-entered your password then you'll probably want to think about who could have been trying to log in to your account. Are your statements and passwords locked up or hidden away whenever anyone but you and your husband are in the house? Is your mailbox a locked one?

Was the letter addressed to you with any information verifying your account (last 4-6 numbers, etc.)
Not to alarm you but or add food to the fire but...
It could be a phishing letter (fake trying to get information and can look incredibly real) if it does not have your name and account numbers. If you called their number on the letter and it was a phishing letter the "bad guys" maybe trying to get your information/steal identities etc.
In the future, only contact them off a letter you know if valid and from them. Even if you call their main line and the letter is true they can transfer you to the correct extension.
Wait until Monday and use the true number to contact them. It most likely is because you haven't made any transactions in a while and they want to validate your identify.
