I have always had a new house!

February 17th, 2013 at 06:09 pm

I don't mean to brag, but I have always had a new house. I guess that is because I am married to a builder. Now, I will brag, he is the best builder in the state cause he does all thw work by himself. We have never had to repair or fix anything. I know that will end some day cause our house is 17 year old. Time for a new house????????

Hello Ima. I thought you loved the house you are in? If it ain't broke, why fix it?

You mean you think it might start to have problems soon?

Yikes! after 17 years you want to go through every nook and cranny, shelf and drawer, cabinet and pantry and make decisions about what to keep, what to sell, what to donate, what to trash and what will move with you. Follow that up with boxes, boxes, boxes, packing in every room and lists of needs to buy for the new house. After shopping and buying you face the new problem of where everything that you love, use and need should go in the new house. Window coverings, flooring choices , paint colors, fixtures and plethora of details are all headaches waiting to happen.

Some of us would rather have teeth extracted than face the nightmare of moving. :0(

I do love the house but it is big (over 3000 sq. ft.) with 2 acres to mow every week. I think we should downsize!

Totally understand downsizing having done that twice, 1st to smaller house as a result of a cross country move, the 2nd to a condo to permit us to take international contracts. Having to make decisions based on fewer rooms, smaller sized rooms, less storage space, became if you haven't used an item in the past 18 months - out it goes. The family bought into the new in - old out concept but actioning it was painful. When they wasn't enough we negotiated the magic 12. DKs got concert tickets to agree to no more than 12 T's, jeans, footwear, games, sport stuff etc. I lost tableware infused with memories, DH relinquished books and is still agonizing over choosing 12 books that should have been gone by 12/30/12.

Wish you well and suggest you start now identifying the items to sell.

It sounds like a terrific situation! Even if you need to downsize, having your LIB (live-in-builder) Wink will lead you to be able to get exactly what you want. Granted, there is no insurance against the stress of moving, but if you have the right place to move to then it will be a nice change. Smile Jerry
