Too close for comfort!

March 3rd, 2012 at 10:11 pm

I have NEVER seen a tornado, nor do I want to. Last night, a tornado touched down at the small town north of here, about 20 miles north.
We went to bed with flashlights by our sides. Both dogs wore their leashes in their beds. They are our number #1 priority to save.
The little town did not make it on the tv news; so hopefully the damge was not too bad and no one was hurt.
I had a no use gas day today, so $2 to add to the $20 challenge.

Prev. total $3,555.00
today 2.00
new total $3,557.00

I would never wish a tornado on anyone, but of course, I have lived in the midwest for nearly 40 years and have yet to have one affect me. Get to shelter as quick as possible is my best advice.

Scary. There have been a few hurricanes around here that got pretty dicey, so i can only imagine a tornado being so much worse. I have such a fear of tornadoes in general that i would not consider living in the midwest because of it.

I am glad you are safe Ima. Hope the little town close by is ok too.

Glad you are safe. Living in the Midwest, tornadoes are always a threat.

I wondered how near it was to you. Soon after it happened they were saying on radio that one man was rescued from the basement of his demolished house. He had been able to call them by cell phone, but with a broken leg was unable to crawl out on his own.

Do you have a basement or windproof saferoom?

We have a daughter living in Paducah....scared her so bad she is moving back here as we speak...But, we get them here as well--but at leaswt she has family here.

We have been doing volunteer work in Joplin for tornado cleanup. They do a lot of damage, physical and mentally....

Glad you are safe. We are from Wisconsin, had plenty of tornadoes go around us but none ever touched down, thankfully. One wiped out part of a small town about 15 miles away from us in 2006, I believe. We heard that one going past-sounded like a freight train. Apparently if everything gets real still then its headed for you.

I have had several close brushes with tornadoes but have not been hit. I remember hail, green sky, fast-moving clouds and stillness.

This one hit in Murphy, N.C. about 20 miles north of us. We live in the mountains, so tornados are rare. We live in one of the few houses around here that does NOT have a basement.
The spec house my dh is building now has a storm room under the house. No windows, just concrete.
