Wal mart doesn't need your penny!

February 19th, 2010 at 08:37 pm

I just got back from Wal mart. I buy only the groceries there that are cheaper than at Ingles. My bill came to $25.01 and I gave the cashier $40 and a penny. He gave me the penny back and told me that Wal Mart did not need my penny.
What happened to balancing out your cash drawer? That is what we had to do when I worked as a cashier. At the savings and loan I worked at, we had to balance to the penny every day before we went home.
Before all this snow, we went to wal marts to buy a copy machine. I make a lot of copies for business purposes and I always have to use the copier at the library.
The library is not always open, so I decided to splurge and get a copier.

I found one on roll back for $59. However, when i got home, I found they had charged me the original price of $74.

I took the receipt back to customer service today. They argued with me a bit, but finally refunding me $16.05. So I am going to add that money to the challenge since it was a bit of a challenge to get the money back.
I had a no use gas day yesterday ($2), stock market went up ($1) and I did not eat out ($1), so a total of $20 to add to the challenge today.
Prev. total $2544.00
today 20.00
new total $2564.00

That IS weird. I've had clerks give me back a full dollar instead of 99 cents, but they almost always pull a penny from the "take a penny, leave a penny" tray on the counter. I've never had someone refuse exact change when I've given it to them.

See they didn't need your penny cause they wanted the whole $16. LOL.
Seems pretty smart Glad you got your money back.

I've had cashiers do similar things - not at Wal-mart - when it was just a few pennies or less.

What about the Walmart thing where they refund you the difference they overcharge plus $5? I bought several tank tops this Summer all off the same rack, and one rang up a different, larger price. We took it to the customer service desk, and thats what they told me was Walmart policy.

Our local children's hospital, Riley's Hosp., has donation bottles, boxes, and the like located throughout the store. While getting prescriptions, the cashier closed the drawer before giving me my 8 cents change. She then attempted to reach for the bottle, with a screw top lid, to give me change from it. I EXPLODED! I didn't scream, but said loud enough for the next two rows, ten people in line behind me, and the pharmacist to hear that it is ILLEGAL to take from a donation jar. She told me she would get it out of her drawer later and it was okay. NO IT IS NOT!! Did you not just hear me say that loudly enough the first time. IT IS ILLEGAL!!
I believe toy guy nailed it on the head. They don't need your penny, they have their hands in your take a penny jar already.
BTW: I reported the cashier, manager didn't care. Reported cashier and manager to Riley Hospital Donation Coordinator.
