Don't forget!!

November 4th, 2009 at 02:51 pm

It is time to start collecting for your local food pantry or food bank. Actually, anytime is a good time with so many people being out of work.
If you still have a job and can afford it, please pick up a few items to donate. Here is some of the things they want:
canned potatoes
canned peas
bagged rice
canned chicken and tuna
chunky soups
peanut butter and jelly
powdered milk
mac and cheese

Please help out if you can. I buy 3 or 4 items every week and will take them in before thanksgiving.

I started giving to the food banks more this year. Just a tip to check with yours - they can often buy in bulk at deep discount, so cash *can* be a better donation. Can help more people anyway. I'd check with your local food bank - ask what they need the most.

Great post! It's important to remember that others are less privledged than you, and that help is always needed.

You are right, monkeymama, sometimes I give cash also. I checked with the foodbank last year and this was the list of things that that wanted the most. Please notice that the only vegetable they asked for was peas!

Thanks for the reminder. I really do need to make up a donation when I start my next catalina run on Friday. Free food is too good to pass up.

I already have a bag ready to go in anticipation of the postal carriers collection drive which should be fast approaching.

Also, just hear that a local radio station (once again) is hosting a canned food drive sponsered by MJR Theaters. 5 canned good items = 1 free movie ticket. Night of the event ONLY.

Added bonus, if the 5 canned good items happen to be KROGER brand, Kroger will match the donation.

Great reminder, and I hope it leads people to drop stuff at the food bank. Especially in this economic climate, there is rarely any insurance that paychecks will continue to come in as needed, and a food bank can literally keep people afloat.
